The second-seeded Friars will take on the No. 4-seed Hoyas in the BIG EAST Championship game on Sunday, Nov.17 on FS2.

NO. 25 MEN'S SOCCER SET TO FACE NO. 4-SEED AND 24th-RANKED GEORGETOWN IN BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH...The second-seeded Friars (12-4-3, 5-1-2 BIG EAST) will take on the No. 4-seed Hoyas (10-4-5, 5-1-2 BIG EAST) in the BIG EAST Championship game on Sunday, Nov.17 at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md. Both teams enter the championship game ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, with Providence at No. 25 and Georgetown ranked No. 24. The match will kick-off at 12:00 p.m. and will be televised on FS2. The winner of Sunday's championship game will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. 
 
NO. 2-SEED MEN'S SOCCER SECURES OVERTIME WIN AGAINST NO. 3-SEED ST. JOHN'S, 2-1, TO ADVANCE TO THE BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIP GAME FOR SEVENTH TIME...The second-seeded and 25th-ranked Providence College men's soccer team claimed a 2-1 overtime victory over No. 3-seed St. John's in the BIG EAST Semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 14 at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md. 
 
Sophomore Pearse O'Brien (West Hartford, Conn.) scored his first goal of the season in the 20th minute with a rocket shot that sailed past the goalkeeper and found the bottom right corner of the net. His goal tied the game, 1-1, and eventually forced overtime. 
 
In the first minute over overtime action, Brandon Marshall (Wake Forest, N.C.) sent a high-cross into the box that deflected off the head of Sam Montalto (Stonington, Conn.) and landed at the feet of Neto who one-timed the ball into the net for the game-winning goal.
 
Lukas Burns (Cinnaminson, N.J.) recorded a season-high seven saves to help the Friars to their seventh BIG EAST Championship  game appearance. 
 
PROVIDENCE SHUTS OUT NO. 7-SEED UCONN AND ADVANCES TO THE BIG EAST SEMIFINALS FOR THE SECOND-CONSECUTIVE SEASON...The second-seeded and 25th-ranked Providence College men's soccer team defeated the No. 7-seed Connecticut Huskies, 2-0, in a BIG EAST Quarterfinal match on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 9 in Providence, R.I. With the win, the Friars advanced to the BIG EAST Semifinals for the second-consecutive season and 17th time overall.
 
Graduate Student Israel Neto (Salvador, Brazil) scored his second goal versus UConn this season to deliver a win for the Friars. Junior Bruno Rosa (Cascais, Portugal) converted a penalty kick in the 80th minute to seal the victory. Lukas Burns
(Cinnaminson, N.J.) matched his season-high of five saves to record his seventh shutout of the season. 
 
PC held a 19-13 advantage in shots (7-5 SOG) and  a 9-3 edge in corner kicks. 
 
FRIARS TAKE DOWN XAVIER TO SECURE BIG EAST EAST DIVISION CO-CHAMPION TITLE...The Providence College men's soccer team defeated the defending BIG EAST Champion, Xavier Musketeers, 1-0, in the team's final regular-season match on Saturday, Nov. 2. With the win, Providence claimed a share of the BIG EAST East Division regular-season title. 
 
Senior Cole Dewhurst (Lancaster, Mass.) scored his first goal of the season in the 73rd minute to clinch the victory for the Friars. 
 
Providence held a 13-7 advantage in shots, including a 9-5 edge in shots on goal. The Friars also led in corner kicks, 9-5. 
 
Burns collected five saves in goal for Providence. He was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week on Nov.4. 
 
PROVIDENCE QUALIFIES FOR ITS 24TH BIG EAST TOURNAMENT, MAKING ITS SECOND APPEARANCE AS THE SECOND SEED... The Friars are making their 24th appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament all-time. Providence earned the No. 2 seed for just the second time in program history. The Friars also earned the No. 2 seed in 2021 and advanced to the championship game. That season, the Friars earned an at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the Third Round.
 
FRIARS RANKED 25TH IN UNITED SOCCER COACHES POLL...The Friars are currently ranked No. 25 in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll. The final poll of the regular season was released on Nov. 5. The Friars have been ranked as high as No. 18 this season and also were featured at No. 23.
 
TOP-20 RPI SHOWDOWN... Providence and Georgetown enter the BIG EAST Championship game ranked in the top-20 of the NCAA Ratings Percentage Index (RPI). The Friars are No. 16 and the Hoyas check in at No. 5.
 
FRIARS VS. GEORGETOWN ALL-TIME... Providence trails the all-time series against Georgetown, 24-15-5. The Friars and Hoyas played once during the 2024 regular season on Oct. 4 in Washington, D.C. Providence was defeated, 3-0. The last time Providence defeated a ranked Georgetown side dates back to last season (Oct. 14, 2023). On that day, the Friars claimed a 1-0 victory over the then-No. 5 Hoyas in Providence, R.I.
 
FRIARS VS. GEORGETOWN ALL-TIME IN THE BIG EAST TOURNAMENT...
Providence has faced the Hoyas in the BIG EAST Tournament six times. Georgetown has posted a 4-2 record vs. Providence in tournament play, including a 2-0 record in the championship game. 
 
The last time the two teams met in the final was in 2021, when the Friars were defeated in overtime by Georgetown, 2-1, at Shaw Field in Washington, D.C. The Friars earned an at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the Third Round for the fourth time in program history.
 
FRIARS MAKE SEVENTH CHAMPIONSHIP GAME APPEARANCE...Sunday's match against Georgetown will mark the Friars' seventh appearance in the BIG EAST championship game. The Friars are 1-5 all-time in the final, with its lone victory coming in 2014. Providence was the No. 4 seed that season and defeated No. 2 seed Xavier, 2-1, in the title game at PPL Park.
 
FRIARS IMROVE TO 6-0 IN BIG EAST QUARTERFINALS AT HOME...After defeating UConn in the Quarterfinal Round on Nov. 9 at Chapey Field, the Friars improved to 6-0 all-time the Quarterfinal Round when playing at home.
 
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE...The Friars are currently 12-4-3 overall and ranked No. 25 in the nation.  
 
Bruno Rosa and Israel Neto have each recorded double digits in the points colum. Rosa owns 15 points on five goals and five assists. Neto has tallied 10 points on four goals and two assists.
 
Neto has scored a goal in four of the last five games, including three game winners. Additionally, he has scored a goal in each of the Friars' two BIG EAST Tournament games.
 
FIVE-GAME WIN STREAK...The Friars are currently riding a season-best five-game winning streak. Thursday's 2-1 BIG EAST Semifinal win over St. John's snapped the Friars three-game shutout streak. The last time Providence earned victories in five-consecutive matches dates back to the 2019 season. That year, the Friars claimed a win in six-straight matches.
 
SEVEN-GAME UNBEATEN STREAK... Providence was last defeated on Oct. 8 against Syracuse (2-1). Since then, the Friars have put together a 6-0-1 record, including four shut-out victories.
 
FIVE FRIARS EARN ALL-BIG EAST HONORS...It was announced on Nov. 12, that five Providence College men's soccer student-athletes received All-BIG EAST honors following the 2024 regular season. 
 
Graduate student Bernardo Prego earned a spot on the First Team, while graduates Lukas Burns and Rodrigo Vaza (Torres Vedras, Portugal), and junior Bruno Rosa (Cascais, Portugal), made the Second Team. Junior Diego Batista (Barcelos, Portugal) was named to the All-BIG EAST Third Team.
 
FRIARS ARE 7-0-1 WHEN SCORING TWO-OR-MORE GOALS...Providence has posted a 7-0-1 record when scoring two-or-more goals in a game. 
 
BALANCED ATTACK...Eleven different players on the roster have scored at least one goal, and five of those 10 players are multi-goal scorers.
 
SECOND HALF SURGE...Providence has scored 15 of its 24 goals this season during the second half. 
 
FRIARS ARE 1-0 AGAINST RANKED TEAMS...On September 20, Providence pulled off an upset win over No. 8 Seton Hall in their BIG EAST opener at Chapey Field in Providence, R.I.

TRANSFER POWERHOUSE... Twenty-one of the 24 Friar goals this season have come from transfer students. Transfers Pepe Lora (Madrid, Spain), Bruno Rosa (Cascais, Portugal), Harry Scarborough (Wigan, England), Aidan Davock (Medway, Mass.), Rodrigo Vaza (Torres Vedras, Portugal), Israel Neto (Salvador, Brazil), and Kevin Castañeda (Providence, R.I.) have all recorded goals this season.
 
PLAYERS TO WATCH...Junior Bruno Rosa leads Providence with 15 points, five goals and five assists. Rosa converted a penalty kick in the 80th minute that sealed the Friars' victory in the BIG EAST Quarterfinals over UConn on Nov. 9. Graduate student Israel Neto, a transfer from Caldwell University, has had a late-season surge, scoring all four of his goals this season his the last five games. Neto notched the golden goal in the first minute of overtime action in the Friars' thrilling win over St. John's in the Semifinals on Nov. 14. He also scored what proved to be the game-winner versus UConn in the Quarterfinals on Nov. 9. Neto's two postseason goals place him second on the team in both points (10) and goals (four). He has contributed two assists this year.  First Team All-BIG EAST graduate defender, Bernardo Prego (Evora, Portugal) holds a team-best four asssists. 
 
Freshman defender Vasco Teixeira (Arrentela, Portugal) has had a stand-out rookie season for the Friars. Teixeira has tallied three assists. He assisted on the deciding goal in the Friars' win at UConn which earned him BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Oct. 28. 
 
Lukas Burns has played 1,694 minutes in goal for Providence and owns a 0.90 goals against average and a 0.785 save percentage. He has been the goalkeeper of record in each match this season (12-4-3) with seven clean sheets. This season, Burns was honored as the BIG EAST Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year and was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team.
 
HEAD COACH CRAIG STEWART...Craig Stewart is in the midst of his 13th-year at Providence College and recorded his 100th career win with the Friars on Nov. 11, 2021. He enters Sunday's match against Georgetown with a 127-81-36 record as head coach at Providence. Before taking over the Friars' program in 2012, he spent three seasons as head coach at Franklin Pierce (51-8-6). In 16 years overall as a head coach, Stewart has posted a record of 177-88-36. Stewart has built an impressive coaching career at Providence, leading the team to nine BIG EAST Championship appearances and five NCAA Tournament berths.
 
SCOUTING GEORGETOWN...The Hoyas claimed the No. 4-seed in the BIG EAST Championship after finishing third in the BIG EAST East Division. Georgetown defeated top-seeded Akron, 2-1, in overtime in the semifinals. Freshman Aidan Godinho scored the golden goal in the 99th minute. 
 
Sophomore Matthew Van Horn leads the Hoyas with 15 points on six goals and three assists. Zach Zengue is second in scoring with 12 points on three goals and six assists. Mitchell Baker owns 11 points on four goals and three assists. BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, defender Tate Lampman, is a key part of a backline that has recorded 11 shutouts, ranking the Hoyas first in the nation. Junior Tenzing Manske has played 1,347 minutes in goal for Georgetown this season. Manke has registered a 0.60 goals against average and a 0.791 save percentage. He has been the goalkeeper of record in 15 matches (9-4-2), conceding just nine goals and posting eight shutouts, which ranks
him second nationally in GAA.
 
BROADCAST INFORMATION...The BIG EAST Championship game with be televised on FS2, with Dave Ryan and Monika Moore providing the play-by-play commentary.
 
WHAT'S NEXT...The winner of Sunday's Championship match between Providence and Georgetown will earn an automatic bid to the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
