SAN DIEGO, Cailif. - The Providence College men's basketball team was defeated by the Wisconsin Badgers, 104-83, on Thursday, Nov. 27 at the Jenny Craig Pavillion in San Diego, Calif., in the Rady Children's Invitational.
Jason Edwards (Atlanta, Ga.) led the Friars with 20 points.
Stefan Vaaks (Tabasalu,Estonia) chipped in 11 points for the Friars, while
Jamier Jones (Sarasota, Fla.) and
Oswin Erhunmwunse (Benin City, Nigeria) added 10 points each.
Jaylin Sellers (Columbus, Ga.) and Jones led the Friars with 7 rebounds.
FIRST HALF:
• Wisconsin won the tip and opened the scoring, before a driving layup by Jaylen Sellers got the Friars on the board.
• Both teams traded baskets in a fast-paced next couple minutes, with a
Jason Edwards midrange ending a 5-0 Badger run. Wisconsin led at the first media timeout, 11-8 (15:45)
• Another highly contested few minutes highlighted by an up and under layup from
Corey Floyd Jr. (Franklin, N.J.) saw Wisconsin lead 19-13 (11:47)
• An
Oswin Erhunmwunse floater followed by a
Jamier Jones three cut the Wisconsin lead to 21-18 at the 9:58 mark
• Wisconsin pushed the lead back to eight, before Edwards converted on a driving layup. Wisconsin led at the under eight timeout, 26-20 (7:51)
• After a missed free throw, Sellers grabbed the offensive rebound and fed the ball to
Stefan Vaaks, who hit on a deep three to trim the Badger lead back down to three at 27-24 (6:43)
• A 12-2 Wisconsin run gave the Badgers a 39-26 lead at the under 4 timeout (3:24)
• Wisconsin led at the half 51-32
• Providence shot 13-31 (41.9%) from the field, 6-18 (20.0%) from three, and 4-6 (66.7%) from the free-throw line.
• Wisconsin shot 19-40 (32.1%) from the field, 6-18 (33.3%) from three, and 7-10 (70%) from the free-throw line.
• Edwards led the Friars in the first half with nine points.
• Nick Boyd scored 18 points for Wisconsin
• Four different Friars recorded three rebounds in the first half.
SECOND HALF:
• Jaylen Harell (Boston, Mass.) hit the first Friar field goal of the second half, hitting a three from the corner.
• Wisconsin led at the first media time out, 65-42 (14:10)
• The Friars converted on four straight field goals, but Wisconsin held a 73-51 advantage (11:55)
• Wisconsin led 82-63 at the under eight (7:52)
• Wisconsin won 104-83

Stefan Vaaks had three three-pointers in the game, marking his seventh game of the season where he has recorded two or more threes.
