Men’s And Women’s Track To Compete At Penn Relays

Penn Relays are scheduled for April 24-26 in Philadelphia, Pa.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's and women's track teams are set to travel to Philadelphia, Pa., for the Penn Relays. The meet will take place from Thursday, April 24 to Saturday, April 26 at the historic Franklin Field on the University of Pennsylvania campus. The Friars will have 15 athletes running.
On the women's side, the 1,500 meters will feature junior Cara Laverty (Derry, Ireland) and freshman Annie Mann (Hampshire, England). Junior Niamh O'Mahony (Kerry, Ireland) will race in the 5,000 meters. The Distance Medley Championship of America will feature graduate student Shannon Flockhart (Cambridge, England), senior Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand), junior Jillian Fenerty (Franklin, Mass.) and sophomore Maeve O'Neill (Cork, Ireland). In the 4 x 1,500 meter Championship of America, graduate student Alex Millard (Kent, England), Laverty, Flockhart and May are also set to compete.
Laverty and Mann both competed in the 1,500 meters this season at the Raleigh Relays. Laverty finished in 10th in a time of 4:17.56. The junior has a personal best of 4:16.72. Mann finished the 1,500 meters at the Raleigh Relays in 4:19.97.
O'Mahony recently ran the 5,000 meters at the Friar Invitational where she finished second in a time of 16:44.22. The junior has a personal best of 16:42.35.
The Friar DMR team placed third and earned First Team All-America honors at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 14 in a time of 10:46.28, finishing less than a second behind the first-place team. Last year at Penn Relays, the team which consisted of Flockhart, Fenerty and May placed second overall in a school record time of 10:39.04. The time ranks second all-time in NCAA history.
The last time the Friars competed in the 4 x 1,500 meter relay was at the Penn Relays in 2023 when Flockhart and May were a part of the team. The Friars won the relay in a school record time of 17:11.35 which ranks sixth all-time in NCAA history.
On the men's side, graduate student Patrick Thygesen (Brisbane, Australia) will race in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Graduate student Liam Back (New Plymouth, New Zealand), senior Michael Morgan (Sligo, Ireland) and freshman Ryan LoCicero (Bloomfield, N.J.) will compete in the 5,000 meters. Sophomore Tyler Bartlett (Fairfield, Conn.) will race in the 1,500 meters. Bartlett, senior Brett Lehman (Lower Gwynedd, Pa.), freshman Tom Breen (Providence, R.I.), and Thygesen will compete in the Distance Medley College.
Thygesen is seeded fifth and recently placed 23rd in the steeplechase at Raleigh with a time of 8:53.05. His personal best of 8:33.78, also set at Raleigh in 2023, earned him third place that year. At last year's Penn Relays, the graduate student placed third in a time of 8:37.32.
Back recently placed sixth in his heat in the 5,000 meters at the Raleigh Relays in a time of 14:03.10. The graduate student has a personal best of 13:39.75. Morgan competed in the 5,000 meters at the Friar Invitational, finishing fourth in a time of 14:17.08. He has a personal best of 13:56.10. LoCicero raced in the 5,000 meters at the Raleigh Relays in a time of 14:19.33.
Bartlett recently competed in the 1,500 meters at the Raleigh Relays in a personal best time of 3:45.54.
In the DMR, Lehman and Thygesen were members of the team at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships in 2024 that finished in a time of 9:41.12.
