Alex Millard And Brett Lehman Honored As 2024-25 BIG EAST Sport Excellence Award Winners

PROVIDENCE, R.I.– The BIG EAST Conference has announced the winners of the 2024-25 BIG EAST Sport Excellence Awards today (Aug. 8), which recognizes academic and athletic achievement as well as community service. Of the 22 overall award winners, two of the honorees represent Providence College. Alex Millard (Kent, England) earned the award for women's outdoor track and Brett Lehman (Lower Gwynedd, Pa.) claimed the recognition for men's indoor track.
The Sport Excellence Awards are given to one student-athlete in each BIG EAST-sponsored sport based on academic credentials, athletic accolades or performances and volunteer service to the community. Student-athletes who have attained junior academic standing and a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 are eligible. The winners are chosen by the BIG EAST Faculty Athletics Representative Council.
Millard graduated from Providence in May with a 3.91 GPA after receiving her graduate degree in global education. Her outdoor track accomplishments this year included winning the 5,000 meters at the 2025 Raleigh Relays in a time of 15:27.02. The graduate student was a member of the 4 x 1,500 team that won the Women's 4 x 1,500 Championship of America race in a time of 16:59.65, the third-fastest collegiate time ever recorded and a program record at Penn Relays. She earned runner-up in the 10,000 meters at the 2025 BIG EAST Outdoor Championship in a time of 32:53.97 to earn All-BIG EAST honor. At the 2025 NCAA Preliminary Rounds, Millard finished eighth in the 5,000-meter semifinals in a time of 15:28.91. To finish the season, she earned Second Team All-America in the 5,000-meter finals (15:37.22) at the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Track Championship.
Lehman graduated in May with a 3.88 GPA after majoring in quantitative economics and mathematics. He was named to the Providence College Dean's List seven times. In the indoor track season, Lehman won the 400 meters (48.41) at the UMass Flagship Invitational as well as the 500 meters at the URI Invitational (1:05.50). The senior set a program indoor record in the 400 meters in a time of 48.27 at the Valentine Invitational. At the 2025 BIG EAST Indoor Championship, Lehman finished second and was named All-BIG EAST in the 400 meters (48.11) and was a member of the 4 x 400 team that set a program record and finished fifth (3:16.66). Lehman finished the season with a second-place finish in the 500-meter finals (1:03.70) at the IC4A Indoor Championship.
