Men’s Golf Set For Peoples Championship

The Friars will compete in three rounds at Sea Island Resort in St. Simons Island, Ga.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's golf team returns to action on Thursday, March 12 through Saturday, March 14 at the Peoples Championship, hosted by Western Carolina University, at Sea Island Resort in St. Simons Island, Ga.

The three-round stroke-play tournament will be contested Thursday through Saturday. Each round will feature tee times off both the front and back nine, with both a morning and afternoon wave for a true "Tour experience". 
 
The 20-team field includes Belmont University, Tennessee Technological University, Western Carolina University, University of Tennessee at Martin, Charleston Southern University, Drexel University, Marshall University, Valparaiso University, Murray State University, Xavier University, Siena University, Long Island University, Mount St. Mary's University, Florida A&M University, Samford University, Winthrop University, Wright State University, Villanova University and Davidson College.
 
Providence will compete on the par-71 course that ranges 6,664 yards. Originally opened in 1967, the golf course was originally designed by George Cobb and renovated in October 2019. The championship course is framed by live oaks and towering pine trees and is surrounded by the lagoons and salt marshes of the Golden Isles. 
 
The Friars returned to action in the spring season at the Dorado Beach Collegiate at TPC Dorado Beach in Dorado, Puerto Rico on Sunday, Feb. 22 through Tuesday, Feb. 24. The Friars finished 14th in the 15-team field with a score of 920 (+56). Junior Campbell Skelly (Charleston, S.C.) led Providence, carding a 221 (+5) to tie for 34th overall. Skelly highlighted the week with a two-under 70 in the second round, tying for the eighth-best round of the day. The performance marked the lowest round by a Friar in the tournament. He finished the week with 11 birdies, the most by any Providence player. Graduate students Logan Jaeger (Basking Ridge, N.J.) and Kevin Legnard (Bethel, Conn.) made their collegiate debuts at the tournament.
 
Providence resumed varsity competition in 2025-26 for the first time in 23 years, opening the season at the Sacred Heart Fall Classic in Milford, Conn., last September. Freshman Callan Fahey (Wheaton, Ill.) led Providence with a 10th-place finish out of 80 competitors, carding a 221 (+5). Junior Campbell Skelly (Charleston, S.C.) owns the program's top individual finish this season, placing tied for fifth at the Ryan T. Lee Memorial with a two-round score of 141 (-1).
 
The Friars recorded its best team finish of the fall with a fifth-place showing at the Bash in the Boro at Georgia Southern University Golf Course on Oct. 14. During that event, freshman Will Spring (Concord, Mass.) fired the lowest round of the season for the Friars, shooting a six-under 66 with seven birdies.
