Gabby Schmidt Named BIG EAST Female Athlete Of The Week

Schmidt placed fourth of 183 runners at the Princeton Meadows Challenge last weekend.
PROVIDENCE, R.I.– It was announced on Tuesday, Sept. 29, that Providence College junior Gabby Schmidt (Brisbane, Australia) was named BIG EAST Cross Country Female Athlete of the Week for the second time this season. Schmidt earned the honor after placing fourth overall of 183 runners in a time of 19:53.3 at the Princeton Meadows Challenge at the Meadows Campus at Princeton University on Saturday, Sept. 26.
Schmidt was named BIG EAST Cross Country Female Athlete of the Week on Sept. 8 after winning the Friar Invitational. Her fourth-place finish at the Princeton Meadows Challenge helped the Friars to a third-place finish of 17 teams with 87 points. Providence finished in front of three nationally ranked teams including Penn State (No. 13), Princeton (No. 25) and Villanova (No. 29).
The Friars will return to action on Friday, October 9 at the Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wis. and the New England Championship in Hopkinton, N.H.
