Providence Women’s Cross Country Ranked 24th In Nationals Polls; Men Ranked Fifth In The Region

The Friar women are ranked for the first time this season.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The USTFCCCA released its latest Regional and National Coaches' Poll on Tuesday, Sept. 29. The Providence College women's cross country team is ranked No. 1 in the Northeast Region and No. 24 in the nation. The Friar men's cross country team is ranked fifth in the Northeast Region.
The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Princeton Meadows Challenge at the Meadows Campus at Princeton University on Saturday, Sept. 26. The women's team placed third of 17 teams with 87 points and was led by junior Gabby Schmidt (Brisbane, Australia), who placed fourth overall of 183 runners in a time of 19:53.3. Schmidt was named BIG EAST Cross Country Female Athlete of the Week for her efforts. Providence finished in front of three nationally ranked teams including Penn State (No. 13), Princeton (No. 25) and Villanova (No. 29). The top five women finished in the top 30 for the Friars. The men placed 10th of 15 teams and were paced by junior Cormac Dixon (Dublin, Ireland), who finished 37th in a time of 23:53.2.
The Friars will return to action on Friday, October 9 at the Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wis. and the New England Championship in Hopkinton, N.H.
