BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Providence College junior Gladys Ganiel of Harrington, Maine finished 13th in the 10,000 meters in a time of 35:02.31 at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship on June 3 in Buffalo, N.Y. The race was won by Arizona junior Amy Skieresz in a time of 33:04.12.
For the Ganiel, who recently earned her fifth GTE District 1 Academic All-America honor, it marked her first appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Track Championship. Ganiel qualified for the NCAA's with her most impressive race of the season, winning the ECAC 10,000 meter title in a time of 34:57.96 on May 24.
The Providence women's track team will continue to compete at the NCAA's with freshman Rachel Hixson of Media, Pa. running the 3,000 meters on Thursday night and junior Sarah Dupre of Kingston, Ontario and senior Marie McMahon of Ennistymon, Ireland racing in the 5,000 meters on Friday evening.
