MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Providence College women's cross country team defeated 17 schools to win the Roy Griak Invitational at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minn., on Saturday, September 26. The victory marked the third time the PC women's cross country team has won the title at the Roy Griak Invitational (1995, 1996 and 1998).
Providence was led by senior Sara Dupre of Kingston, Ontario, who finished second in a time of 17:09. Dupre finished one second behind individual champion Rasa Michiniovate of Minnesota (17:08).
Senior Gladys Ganiel of Harrington, Maine (14th - 17:50), freshman Heather Cappello of Lockport, N.Y. (17th - 17:58), sophomore Stephanie O'Reilly of Wicklow, Ireland (21st - 18:04) and junior Dana Ostrander of Ballston Lake, N.Y. (36th - 18:18) rounded out the scoring for the Friars.
The Friars return to action on Oct. 16 at the New England Championships at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass.
