Women's Cross Country Captures URI Invitational

KINGSTON, R.I. -- The Providence College women's cross country team defeated two schools to win its 14th consecutive University of Rhode Island Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 11 in Kingston, R.I.

Providence was led by sophomore Heather Cappello of Lockport, N.Y. who finished first in a time of 17:47. The Friars dominated the meet as they captured the first five spots and seven of the first 10 positions. Senior Dana Ostrander of Ballston Lake, N.Y. (second - 17:57), sophomore Rachel Hixson of Media, Pa. (third - 18:04), freshman Emily Tallen of Kingston, Ontario (fourth - 18:24) and sophomore Kathryn Casserly of Galway, Ireland (fifth - 18:36) all scored for the Friars.

The Friars return to action on Sept. 25 at the Roy Griak Invitational at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minn.
