The Providence College women's hockey team fell to fifth-ranked Northeastern, 3-2, on Sunday, December 2 in an ECAC game at Matthews Arena.

For the second straight game, the Friars jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead, but the Huskies rebounded each time. Freshman Hilary Greaves (Cranston, R.I.) scored her third goal of the season off a pass from freshman Ashley Payton (Chesterfield, Mo.) to give the Friars a 1-0 lead at the 2:56 mark of the first period. Sophomore Darlene Stephenson (Virden, Manitoba) made it 2-0 at the 9:26 mark as she re-directeded a slap shot from freshman Danielle Bourgette (Anaheim, Calif.). Bourgette's assist was her first collegiate point.

Northeastern scored two second period goals to tie the game at 2-2. Senior Erica Archambeau (Pelkie, Mich.) scored a power play goal at the 14:45 mark to make the score 2-1. Less than a minute later, freshman Lori DiGiacomo (Temecula, Calif.) tallied the game tying goal. In the third period, senior Brooke Whitney (Snohomish, Wash.) scored the game-winnig goal with 11:20 remaining.

The Friars outshot the Huskies, 38-23. Marisa Hourihan (Hanover, Mass.), who replaced Chanda Gunn (Huntington Beach, Calif.) in the first period, made 30 saves for the Huskies to earn the win, while Gunn made six saves. Sophomore Amy Quinlan (Baton Rouge, La.) stopped 20 shots for the Friars in the loss.

Northeastern completed a weekend sweep of the Friars as the Huskies also were victorious on Saturday, 6-3. PC fell to 4-7-2 overall, 1-4-1 ECAC, while the Huskies improved to 12-1-0, 8-1-0 ECAC.

The Friars return to action on Saturday, December 8 as they host Niagara at 2:00 p.m. at PC's Schneider Arena.
