PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women's cross country team is ranked eighth in the FinishLynx Division I Women's Cross Country National Poll, released on Monday, October 7. The Friars, who have not competed during the last two weeks, maintained the No. 8 ranking for the second consecutive week.
Providence received 291 points, while Brigham Young kept its top spot, receiving 390 points and 13 first place votes. Stanford remained at No. 2, while Michigan State climbed to the third spot. Colorado and Boston College round out the top five.
In their most recent competition, the Friars were impressive, finishing third at the Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday, September 28 in Minneapolis, Minn. Senior Roisin McGettigan (Wicklow, Ireland) led the Friars with a fifth-place finish in a time of 21:18. Sophomore Mary Cullen (Sligo, Ireland) crossed the finish line in seventh place in a time of 21:21.
The Friars will next compete on Friday, October 11 at the New England Championship in Boston, Mass.
