PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College senior cross country runner Adam Sutton (Preston, England) received the Joseph V. MacAndrew Award on April 26, 2003 at the Mal Brown Club Awards Night. The Joseph V. MacAndrew Award is presented to the male senior varsity athlete who has achieved an outstanding level of performance in academics and athletics during his undergraduate career at Providence.
Sutton, a business management major who earned a 3.61 grade point average during the 2002 fall semester, was recently named to the 2002 U.S. Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team. He led the cross country team to a 13th-place finish at the NCAA Championship on November 25 in Terre Haute, Ind. Sutton placed 27th overall to earn All-America honors for second consecutive season. In addition, he captured the individual crowns at the BIG EAST Championship (Nov. 1) and the New England Championship (Oct. 11). At the BIG EAST Championship, Sutton's time of 23:33 was the second fastest ever run at Franklin Park for the BIG EAST Men's Championship. Most recently, he was named the Providence College Male Athlete of the Year for an Individual Sport at the College's Annual Awards Banquet on April 30.
Sutton is the son of Brent and Karen Sutton.
