Ray Treacy Inducted Into USTFCCCA Coaches Hall Of Fame Class Of 2026

Treacy was named USTFCCCA Women's Cross Country National Coach of the Year twice.
PROVIDENCE, R.I.– It was announced today (Aug. 4) that former Providence College Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Ray Treacy '82 has been inducted into the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Coaches Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026.
Ray Treacy's accomplishments as the head coach of the Friars:
*2 NCAA Cross Country team championships (1995 and 2013)
*18 BIG EAST Cross Country team championships
*74 Student-athletes who have received 226 All-America accolades
*11 Olympians
*10 Individuals who have captured 15 NCAA titles overall
*61 Individuals who have captured 152 BIG EAST titles overall
*10 Podium finishes (Top Four) at NCAA Championships
*21 NCAA Northeast Regional Cross Country championships
*24 New England Cross Country Championships
*Women's Cross Country qualified for NCAA championships 33 of the last 37 years - finished top-10 21 times
*Men's Cross Country qualified for NCAA championships 25 of the last 41 years - finished top-10 14 times
*Post-collegiate athletes he has coached have won more than 40 USATF titles [Road and Track]
In 1995 and 2013, Treacy was named the USTFCCCA Women's Cross Country National Coach of the Year after leading the Friars to NCAA, BIG EAST, ECAC and Northeast Regional championships.
Treacy's road to success began as a student-athlete at Providence College. He served as team captain during his junior and senior seasons and earned Cross Country All-America honors three times. He was a two-time New England Cross Country champion and won the indoor 5,000 meters at the BIG EAST Championships three times. Treacy also captured IC4A titles in the outdoor 10,000 meters (1981) and indoor 5,000 meters (1982). He also helped the Friars capture the 1979 BIG EAST Cross Country title, the first BIG EAST championship ever awarded by the conference.
A former Irish national senior 10,000-meter champion and member of the Irish National Cross Country Team, Treacy resides in Warwick, R.I., with his wife, Lisa. They have two sons, Michael and Liam.
Established in 1995, the USTFCCCA Coaches Hall of Fame recognizes coaches who have brought distinction to themselves, their institutions and the sports of cross country and track & field. According to the USTFCCCA, each inductee "exemplifies the qualities of dedication to the sport, leadership and passion for their profession that serve as an inspiration to coaches everywhere in the sport."
