WARWICK, R.I. -- The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2004 season by finishing first at the Providence College Invitational on Friday, September 3 at Goddard Park. It marked the second consecutive season that the Friars won the event. The Providence women (18 points) had five runners finish among the top six as they finished ahead of New Hampshire (44 points). Junior Fiona Crombie (Christchurch, New Zealand) captured the event in a time of 17:18, while senior Mary Cullen (17:22) of Sligo, Ireland placed second. UNH's Megan Hepp (Milton, Vt.) took third place in a time of 18:05. Junior Jane Nalder (18:30) of Wellington, New Zealand, senior Katie Twarog (18:38) of Albany, N.Y. and senior Roisin Quinn (18:49) of Waterford, Ireland finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively for Providence. The Providence men (19 points) also finished ahead of the Wildcats (46 points) as senior Patrick Moulton (Pelham, N.H.) crossed the finish line in first-place in a time of 25:19. Moulton was followed by UNH's Anthony Truax (Dover, N.H.) who ran to second-place finish in a time of 25:26. The Friars took the next four spots en route to the win. Senior Dylan Wykes (25:31) of Kingston, Ontario , sophomore Darren Brown (25:38) of Spring, Texas, freshman Ahmed Haji (25:40) of West Hartford, Conn. and senior Liam Reale (26:01) of Hospital Ireland placed third, fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively. Providence will return to action on Saturday, September 11 at the Fordham Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park in New York.
