PROVIDENCE R.I. -- The Providence College women's ice hockey team shutout Boston University, 4-0, on Saturday, November 19, at Schneider Arena in Providence, R.I. Providence remains undefeated at home this season with a 5-0-2 record at Schneider Arena. The Friars improve to 6-3-2 overall and 5-1-1 in HOCKEY EAST action.

Junior Kristin Gigliotti (Sauquoit, N.Y.) and senior Karen Thatcher (Douglas, Mass.) each earned their ninth assists of the season on the game-winning goal by Ashley Payton (Chesterfield, Mo.) at 12:28 of the first period.

The Friars went on to score three unanswered goals in the second period to cap off their offensive onslaught. Sophomore Jenna Keilch (Clinton Township, Mich.) netted her second goal of the season on the power play at 11:18 with the assist from senior Katelynn Laffin (Norwell, Mass.). Less than a minute later, Gigliotti slapped the puck past BU netminder Karilyn Pilch for her sixth goal of the season. Karen Thatcher passed the puck to Ashley Payton who was two feet away from the net. Payton passed the puck to Gigliotti who was outside the right face-off circle for the goal at 11:59. With only four seconds remaining in the second period, sophomore Rachel Crissy (Naperville, Ill.) concluded the Friar scoring with a power play goal at 19:56. Crissy was assisted by sophomore Kathleen Smith (Waterloo, Ontario) and freshman Erin Normore (Ontario, Canada).

The Friars went two-for-six on the power play, and six-for-six on the penalty kill. Providence dominated shots on goal, 42-10.

Senior Jana Bugden (Corner Brook, Newfoundland) posted 10 saves in the net for the Friars. Bugden recorded her 12th career shutout and her first since in a 3-0 win over New Hampshire in the 2004 HOCKEY EAST Finals on March 21. The Terrier goalie, Karilyn Pilch, recorded 38 saves.

Providence will continue its home-stand against Yale University on Friday, November 25 at Schneider Arena at 7:00 p.m.
