Women's Cross Country Finishes 16th At NCAA Championship

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Providence College women's cross country team finished 16th of 31 teams at the 2005 NCAA Cross Country Championship in Terre Haute, Indiana on Monday, November 21. It marked the Friars' 17th-consecutive appearance at the NCAA's. PC senior Fiona Crombie (Christchurch, New Zealand) earned her third All-America honor and second in cross country when she placed 14th in a time of 20:18 over the 6,000 meter course. She is the 115th All-American in Friar Head Coach Ray Treacy's 22-year career at Providence.

Stanford (146 points) won the team title and Johanna Nilsson of Northern Arizona captured the individual title in a time of 19:33.9.

Junior Meghan Owen (Danielson, Conn.) was the Friars' second finisher as she placed 67th in a time of 21:02. Graduate student Aine Hoban of Wakefield, England (80th, 21:13), freshman Katie DiCamillo of Garden City, N.Y. (109th, 21:31) and senior Katie Twarog of Albany, N.Y. (143rd, 21:53) also scored for the Friars. Senior Ashley Jensen of Lincoln, R.I. (189th, 22:37) and sophomore Michelle Childs of Cameron, Ontario (194th, 22:41) also competed for the Friars.

"Our goal was to finish in the top 10, but overall it was a solid performance," Friar Head Coach Ray Treacy said. "The women were led once again by Fiona (Crombie) who had a very strong season, earning wins at the BIG EAST and NCAA Regional Championships and then capturing All-America honors today."
