BOSTON, Mass. - The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Boston College Invitational on Friday, September 15 at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. Both Friar squads claimed first place in the team standings. The women's team recorded 29 points, while the men's team recorded 24 points in the victory.
On the women's side, graduate student Aine Hoban (Wakefield, England) paced the Friars with a second-place finish in a time of 17:33. Sophomore Katie DiCamillo (Garden City, N.Y.) placed third in a time of 17:40. Junior Mary Nelle Trefz (Iowa City, Iowa), freshman Breffini Twohig (Dublin, Ireland) and freshman Krystal Douglas (Harpswell, Maine) each finished in the top-10 overall. Trefz palced sixth (17:58), Twohig finished eighth (18:02) and Douglas completed the race in 10th place (18:05). Sophomore Sarah Morgan (Waikato, New Zealand) and sophomore Kate Campbell (Aukland, New Zealand) also scored for PC. Morgan placed 15th (18:44) and Campbell finished 17th (18:57).
On the men's side, junior Ahmed Haji (West Hartford, Conn.) led the Friar effort with a second place finish in a time of 24:30. Providence then captured fifth through seventh place to help take a commanding lead in the team standings. Junior Max Smith (Dunedin, New Zealand) placed fifth in a time of 24:44. Senior Nick Weidman (Sudbury, Mass.) finished sixth (24:45) and sophomore Richard Yeates (Dublin, Ireland) completed the course in 24:46 for seventh place. Freshman Tom Webb (Barrington, R.I.) was among the top-10 finishers overall in ninth place (25:05). Senior Matt Kinback (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and junior Chris McDermott (West Haven, Conn.) also scored for Providence. Kinback placed 15th (25:56), while McDermott finished in 20th place overall (26:30).
The Friars return to action on Friday, September 29 at the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
