Cross Country Teams Compete At NCAA Championship

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the 2007 NCAA Cross Country Championships at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course at the Wabash Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Ind. on November 19. The Providence women's team placed 26th in a field of 31 teams with 491 points. The Friar men placed 27th in a field of 30 with 604 points.

Junior Danette Doetzel (Macklin, Saskatchewan) was the Friars' top finisher overall on the women's side. She placed 19th individually in a time of 20:51.1. Junior Katie DiCamillo (Garden City, N.Y.) was the second Friar to cross the finish line for the women's team in 70th place with a time of 21:32.0. Senior Michelle Childs (Cameron, Ontario), sophomore Krystal Douglas (Harpswell, Maine) and sophomore Breffini Twohig (Dublin, Ireland) also scored for PC. Childs placed 126th in a time of 22:00.3. Douglas followed with a 130th-place finish in a time of 22:03.1. Twohig rounded out the list of Friars who scored in 146th place (22:13.6).

Senior Ahmed Haji (West Hartford, Conn.) led the Friar effort on the men's side with a 38th-place finish in a time of 30:41.7. Freshman David McCarthy (Waterford, Ireland) placed 68th in his first appearance at the NCAA Championship with a time of 31:00.6. Junior Richard Yeates (Dublin, Ireland) was the third Friar to cross the finish line in a time of 31:43.3, which was good for 144th. Sophomore Hayden McLaren (Christchurch, New Zealand) and sophomore Tom Webb (Barrington, R.I.) also scored for Providence. McLaren placed 173rd in a time of 32:21.0, while Webb finished 181st (32:36.2).

The Friars conclude their cross country season and are scheduled to begin the indoor track slate on Friday, November 30 at the Fordham Invitational in Bronx, N.Y.
