Providence Field Hockey Game Preview vs. Harvard

PROVIDENCE COLLEGE (6-3, 1-0 BIG EAST): The Providence College field hockey team enters Wednesday's game against Harvard with a 6-3 overall record. The Friars have won six of their last seven games, including a 3-2 win over Maine in their most recent contest on September 23.

Freshman Julie Ruggieri (Barrington, R.I.) leads Providence in scoring with 11 points on five goals and one assist. Seniors Abby Maguire (Southbury, Conn.) and Michalagh Stoddard (Norwood, Mass.) are tied for second on the team in scoring with nine points each. Maguire owns four goals and one assist, while Stoddard has compiled three goals and three assists. Stoddard's three goals and three assists each mark single-season career highs. She entered her fourth season with the Friars having scored just four points on one goal and two assists.

Sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Chamberlain (Branford, Conn.) has played 599 minutes in goal this season and has posted a 6-3 record, including two shut-out victories. She has made 38 saves and has allowed just seven goals for a 0.844 save percentage and a 0.82 goals against average.

The Friars are averaging 16.2 shots per game this season, while holding their opponents to just 8.2 shot attempts per game. In addition, Providence is scoring an average of 2.33 goals per game compared to its opponents average of 0.78 goals per contest. Of the Friars 21 goals on the season, 12 have come in the first half of play.

Providence has won each of the last two games it has played against Harvard, including last year's 2-1 victory at Jordan Field in Cambridge, Mass.

PC returns home to the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse complex in Providence, R.I. on Sunday, September 30 to face BIG EAST foe Louisville at 1:00 p.m. The game will be televised locally by Cox Sports Television via tape delay at 8:30 p.m. on September 30.

HARVARD UNIVERSITY (5-2, 2-0 Ivy League): The Harvard field hockey team enters Wednesday's non-conference game against Providence with a 5-2 overall record, including a 4-1 mark at Jordan Field in Cambridge, Mass. The Crimson are coming off of a 4-1 victory against Ivy League foe Brown on September 22.

Through seven games, Tami Jafar leads the Crimson in scoring with eight points on four goals. Kristin Bannon and Maggie McVeigh are tied for second on the team in scoring with seven points apiece. Bannon has recorded two goals and three assists, while McVeigh has tallied one goal and a team-high five assists.

Kylie Stone has played 407 minutes in goal for Harvard this season and has posted a 5-2 record, including one shut-out victory. She has allowed 12 goals and has made 27 saves for a 2.06 goals against average and a 0.692 save percentage.

Harvard gave up five goals in its season-opening loss to Massachusetts on September 2. Since that game, the Crimson have allowed just eight goals in six outings. During that span, the Crimson have not been scored on more than twice in a single game.
