Bo Martina matched her career-high in scoring with five points on two goals and one assist.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Providence College field hockey team defeated Sacred Heart, 4-1, on Sept. 11 at Yale University in New Haven, Conn. It marked the fourth-consecutive win for the Friars, who improved to 4-1 on the season. The Pioneers dropped to 0-4 overall. Senior Bo Martina matched her career-high in scoring with five points on two goals and one assist.
1ST QUARTER:
• Providence College took a 2-0 lead as Martina scored back-to-back penalty corner goals at 1:57 and 8:38. Both goals were set up by Johanna Mahner and Charlotte Lorden.
• Providence held a 5-0 advantage in shots during the first quarter, including a 3-0 edge in shots on goal.
• The Friars were awarded two penalty corners and scored on both.
2ND QUARTER:
• Senior Lily Procaccianti converted her fifth goal of the season to give Providence a 3-0 lead at 17:01 as she deflected a feed from Martina during the Friars' third penalty corner attempt of the game.
• The Pioneers were held without a shot until the 28:45 mark after earning an attacking penalty corner. The attempt was blocked by a Friar defender.
• The Friars attempted five shots in the second quarter and held a 10-1 edge in shot attempts at halftime (5-0 SOG). Providence also led in penalty corner attempts for the first half, 4-1.
3RD QUARTER:
• Junior Martu Torre Festa scored her second goal of the season put Providence up 4-0 in the third quarter at the 42:22 mark. Florencia Talarico picked up her first assist on the season on the play.
• Providence outshot the Pioneers, 5-0, in the quarter and totaled three attacking penalty corners.
4TH QUARTER:
• Sacred Heart got on the board late in the fourth quarter to make the score 4-1 as Blaire Sparks converted a penalty corner opportunity at 54:54. She was assisted by Erin Lynch and Celia Benson.
• The Pioneers outshot the Friars 5-1 in the fourth quarter and registered two of their three penalty corners.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• The Friars have won four-straight games.
• Providence finished the game with a decisive lead in shots (16-6), shots on goal (7-4) and penalty corners (8-3).
• Martina notched her first multi-goal game of the season and the fourth of her career.
• She finished the day with five points on two goals and one assist. Her five points matched her career high, which she set in the 2024 season.
• With her five points in the game, Martina eclipsed 50 points in her career and moved into a tie for 30th on the Friars' all-time scoring list with 51 points on 18 goals and 15 assists.
• Procaccianti has scored at least one goal in each of the Friars last three games.
• She has cracked double-figures in the points column for the second-straight season (10) and owns a team-best five goals on the year.
• Procaccianti owns 19 career goals and moved into a tie for 30th on the Friars' all-time goals list.
• Torre Festa missed the Friars' first two games with an injury. She has returned to score a career-best seven points in the last three games on two goals and three assists.
• Providence goalkeepers Ava Porter and Pauline Gineste split time in the cage. Porter played the first half and did not face a shot. Gineste played the second half and recorded three saves on four shot attempts.
