Lily Procaccianti tallied her first career hat trick in Providence's 11-0 win vs. the Chargers.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team scored six goals in the first quarter en route to a decisive 11-0 victory over New Haven on Friday, Sept. 4 in Providence, R.I. The Friars' 11 goals set a program record for a single-game. Nine different Friars found the back of the cage, including senior Lily Procaccianti, who recorded her first career hat trick. Junior Martu Torre Festa added a career-high five points on one goal and three assists.
1ST QUARTER:
• Providence jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter.
• Carly van Benten struck first, just 2:02 into the match. It marked her third goal of the season.
• Procaccianti scored two goals in the first quarter at 6:57 and 9:28.
• Freshman Darcy Quaile tallied her first collegiate goal at the 8:31 mark.
• Seniors Florencia Talarico and Macie Pennisi rounded out the first quarter goal scorers, marking the first scores of the season for the duo.
• Torre Festa registered all three of her assists in the first quarter and sophomore Saar Koper notched one.
2ND QUARTER:
• The score remained 6-0 at the conclusion of the second quarter.
• Providence outshot New Haven, 9-0, in the second frame.
3RD QUARTER:
• Providence scored three goals in the third quarter to mount a 9-0 advantage.
• Koper tallied her first career goal just 3:59 into the action (33:59) off a feed from Johanna Mahner.
• Procaccianti completed the hat trick at 36:14 as she converted a pass from Ariana Ftorek.
• Torre Festa closed the third quarter scoring, unassisted, with her first career goal.
4TH QUARTER:
• In the final frame, junior Caelie Patrick and sophomore Morgan Mastrobattisto rounded out scoring for Providence, each recording their first career goals.
• Patrick scored at 51:52, unassisted.
• Mastrobattisto converted a penalty-stroke opportunity at 55:15.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Providence's 11 goals set a program record. The previous record for goals in a single game was nine, which the Friars posted on two occasions vs. Fairfield in 1985 and Conn College in 1980.
• Procaccianti's hat trick marked the first by a Friar since Ally DeCoste netted three goals vs. Georgetown on Oct. 20, 2024.
• The Friars held a 42-0 advantage in shots during the match, including a 26-0 edge in shots on goal.
• Providence also recorded a 17-0 edge in penalty corners.
• Graduate student Pauline Gineste was credited with the shut-out victory in goal.
