Providence Men's Cross Country Win Central Connecticut Mini Meet

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - The Providence College Cross Country men's and women's teams competed at the Central Connecticut Mini Meet held at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, Conn. on October 24, 2009. Senior Mike Anderson (Ajax, Ontario) won the men's competition and Sophomore Mary Kate Champagne (Plattsburg, N.Y.) captured victory on the women's side.

Anderson won the 5k race in a time of 15:09.13. The next runner on the men's squad was Stephen Hankinson (Summit, N.J.), who placed third in a time of 15:13.03. Sophomore Phil Divino (Concord-Carlisle, Mass.) ran a superb race, placing fifth in a time of 15:25.02. Freshman Ahmed Ali (Boston, Mass.) placed 10th (15:28.40) and junior Nicholas Barao (Riverside, R.I.) placed 14th (15:33.43).

In women's race, sophomore Mary Kate Champagne won the 3k race in a time of 10:08.65, followed by junior Christina Conley (Andover, Mass.) in 18th place (10:49.61). Senior Amie Schumacher (Wolcott, Conn.) placed 22nd in a time of 10:52.67.

The next race for both the men and women is the BIG EAST Championship in Milwaukee, Wisc. on Saturday, October 31.
