LOWELL, MASS. - Several members of the men's and women's track and field teams turned in sparking performances at the George Davis Invitational Saturday, hosted by the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
On the women's side, junior Hannah Davidson (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) crushed the BIG EAST qualifying standard in the 3000-meter steeple chase, winning the event going away with a time of 10:38.11. For Davidson, her spring debut picks up where she left off during an indoor season that saw her earn second team All-America status.
Equally impressive Saturday was classmate Charlotte Ffrench O'Carroll (Dublin, Ireland). The junior finished the 1500-meters in 4:33.87, nearly five seconds better than the BIG EAST qualifying standard.
In the triple jump, sophomore Christina Lavigne (Shelton, Conn.) also qualified for the conference championships, sailing to a personal best of 11.30 meters.
Meanwhile freshman Laura Nagel took top honors in the 3000-meters, crossing the line in 9:35.38, nearly 28 seconds ahead of freshman Grace Thek (Melbourne, Australia) in second place (10:03.23).
On the men's side, freshman Alex Wallace (Waipukarau, New Zealand) earned first place in the 800-meters, coming home in 1:55.14. Elsewhere, junior Matt Terry (Danbury, Conn.) shined in his first track event of the school-year, running a personal best in the 5000-meters of 15:14.23.
Also earning top-three finishes were seniors Brian Stannard (East Longmeadow, Mass.; 22.75 in the 200) and Phil Connaughton (Broken Arrow, Okla.; 6.88 meters in the long jump).
The Friars will compete again next weekend at the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif.)
