Women's Cross Country Team Earns All Academic Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - THE U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association has recognized the Providence College women's cross country team with All-Academic Status for the 2011 season.

In addition, sophomore Laura Nagel (Napier, New Zealand) has earned individual All-Academic status.

To receive the team honor, squads must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.00 and have at least five athletes compete in the NCAA Regional Championship. Providence sported a collective GPA of 3.28.

Individual accolades go to runners who have a GPA of 3.25 or higher and have finished in the top-10% of the regional field. Nagel was ninth out of a field of 243 runners.

Nagel and the Friar track and field teams return to action this weekend at the BIG EAST Championships. The conference meet is being held this year at The Armory in New York City, beginning Saturday, February 18 and continuing on Sunday, February 19.
