Women's Hockey Drops 6-2 Decision At Northeastern

BOSTON, Mass. - The Providence College women's ice hockey team was defeated by Northeastern, 6-2, in a Hockey East contest on Sunday afternoon at Matthews Arena. With the loss, the Friars move to 1-10-3 (1-3-1 HEA) while Northeastern improves to 4-6-3 (3-4-0 HEA).

Northeastern netted the first goal of the game 11:06 into the first period while on a power play. Kendall Coyne scored with Heather Mottau and Brand McKenna recording the assists. Providence countered late into the first (18:47) to tie the game when sophomore Cassidy Carels (Bruxelles, Manitoba) scored her third goal of the season, quickly off of a faceoff. Senior Haley Frade picked up the assist, her sixth of the season. Junior goalie Allie Morse (Cottage Grove, Minn.) finished the period with 15 saves.

Coyne notched her second goal of the game in the second period (2:01), again on the power play, to give NU a 2-1 advantage. Four other Huskies went on to score in the period to bring the score to 6-1 at the end of the stanza.

The Friars scored with one second left in regulation when freshman Brooke Boquist (Thunder Bay, Ontario) gathered up a rebound off of sophomore Liv Halvorson's (Ruchfield, Minn.) shot while on the power play. The goal marked Boquist's second of the year while Halvorson tallied her third assist.

For the game, the Huskies outshot the Friars, 43-21. Four of Northeastern's six goals were scored on the power play.

Morse and sophomore Alanna Serviss split time in net, stopping 20 and 17 shots, respectively. NU's Sarah Foss recorded 19 saves in the game.

The Friars next play at Maine for an away Hockey East series on Saturday, Nov. 22 and Sunday, Nov. 23. Puck drop for both games is set for 1:00 p.m.
