Last Time Out
-The teams skated through the first 20 scoreless as the Friars held a 8-4 advantage in shots.
-Northeastern's Zach Solow started off a string of scoring in the second period just 28 seconds in, grabbing a 1-0 lead.
-Patrick Moynihan quickly responded with a goal off a turnover with help from Chase Yoder. Moynihan's sixth goal of the season evened the score at 1-1 just 21 seconds later.
-The Huskies followed up three minutes later with a goal from Aidan McDonough on the power play, regaining the lead at 2-1.
-Zach Solow put another one on the board for the Huskies, improving their lead to 3-1 at 12:59.
-Providence responded with only eight seconds left in the second period with a goal from Chase Yoder cutting the Friar's deficit by one, 3-2, heading into the second intermission. Yoder was assisted by Max Crozier and Patrick Moynihan on a mad scramble in the Northeastern crease.
-Greg Printz found the equalizer for the Friars 3:25 into the final period, as he wired a loose puck into the top of the net. Parker Ford and Michael Callahan earned the assists on the game-tying goal.
-Northeastern's Gunnarwolfe Fontaine and Aidan McDonough scored in the shootout, earning the extra points for the Huskies in the Hockey East Power Index.
-Jaxson Stauber stopped 19-of-22 shots faced in net.
-All five of Providence's overtime games have gone to shootouts this season. The Friars are 2-3 in shootouts.
 
Thompson, Stauber Named Walter Brown Award Semifinalists
- The Gridiron Club of Greater Boston announced that Providence College forward Tyce Thompson and goaltender Jaxson Stauber were name semifinalists for the 69th Walter Brown Award - given to the best American-born college hockey player in New England.
- Thompson leads the Friars with nine goals and 12 assists in 22 games this season, while Stauber was recently named a Mike Richter Award finalist for his 10-5-5 record, 2.07 GAA and .917 save percentage this season.
 
Three Current and Future Friars Drafted
Forwards Brett Berard and Chase Yoder were both selected on day two of the 2020 NHL Draft in October. Berard was selected by the New York Rangers in the fifth round (134th overall), while Yoder was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the sixth round (170th overall). Future Friar Riley Duran was taken by the Boston Bruins in the sixth round (182nd overall).
 
Meet the New Guys
Providence welcomed in a seven-member incoming class for this season - four freshmen and three transfer student-athletes. The freshmen are: Brett Berard, Nick Poisson, Uula Ruikka and Chase Yoder. Sophomore Jaxson Stauber is a transfer from Minnesota State, while Matt Tugnutt and Anton Martinsson are graduate transfers from Sacred Heart and Alaska Fairbanks, respectively.
 
Spreading Out the Points
Twenty-one different Friars had at least one point last season. Through 18 games in 2020-21, 20 players have recorded at least one point while 18 players have tallied at least one goal.
 
Stauber Backstops The Friars
Since becoming eligible on Dec. 13, Jaxson Stauber has posted a 2.07 GAA and a .917 save percentage in 20 games, stopping 465-of-507 shots.
 
Returning Production
Providence ranked sixth in the nation with 84 goals that returned this season. The 82% of returning goals ranked fourth nationally. The Friars also returned 76% of their points from last season, which also ranked sixth.
 
Youth Movement
The Friars have the 10th youngest roster in the NCAA this season (average age of 21 years, 181 days). Freshman Brett Berard is the fifth youngest player on an NCAA roster this year.
 
Seeking Seven
Providence holds the nation's second longest-active NCAA appearance streak, having made a sixth- straight tournament appearance in 2018-19. Denver leads the pack with 12-straight appearances.
 
Three is the Magic Number
The Friars are 173-19-20 all-time under Nate Leaman when scoring three or more goals in a game.
 
After 40
The Friars are 157-7-17 all-time under Nate Leaman when holding a lead after two periods.
 
Third Period Momentum
The Friars have a 30-18 (+12) margin overall this season in the third period.
 
GWGs for Everyone
Nine different players have accounted for the Friars' 10 game-winning goals this season. Sophomore Jamie Engelbert is the only Friar to record multiple game-winners this season.
 
Scouting the Huskies
The Huskies snapped a four-game losing stream with a 4-2 win over Maine last Saturday in Storrs. A trio of juniors lead the way in scoring for UConn this season - Jonny Evans (13-11-24), Jachym Kondelik (0-17-17), Carter Turnbull (9-4-13) and Marc Gatcomb (6-5-11) top the leaderboard. In goal, Tomas Vomacka has logged all minutes for the Huskies in posting a 2.69 GAA and .911 save percentage in 21 starts.
 
Series History vs. UConn (PC leads 12-3-3, .750)
Friday will mark the third meeting of the season between the two teams, with the home teams scoring shutout victories each time. The Friars downed the Huskies by a 4-0 score back on Feb. 12 at Schneider Arena. UConn scored a 2-0 victory at Freitas Ice Forum back on Dec. 28. Providence is 5-1-1 over the last seven matchups.
