PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College No. 10 women's hockey team will take on the No. 14 UConn Huskies this weekend with home-and-home matchups. On Friday, Nov. 11 the Friars will travel to Storrs, Conn. for a 6:00 p.m. start before returning home to host on Saturday, Nov. 12 for a 3:00 p.m. puck drop at Schneider Arena.
Scouting the Friars
The Friars are currently 9-2-1 overall and 6-1-1 in Hockey East play. The Friars are coming off a weekend sweep over Boston University. On Friday, Nov. 4 Providence defeated the Terriers, 3-2 in overtime. Saturday's game concluded with the Friars skating to a 4-1 win.
Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) finished the weekend with 49 saves and currently holds a .944 save percentage with a 1.40 GAA this season. Across the two weekend games, 14 Friars tallied a point.
Sara Hjalmarsson (Bankeryd, Sweden) led the weekend in points with three. Hjalmarsson earned an assist and scored the game-winning-goal in Friday's game and recorded another assist during Saturday's game.
Reichen Kirchmair (Oakville, Ontario) tallied two points with a goal on Friday and an assist on Saturday.

th, the Friars are slotting in at No. 10 in the most recent USCHO NCAA Women's Hockey rankings. Providence received 109 votes. The Friars are also No. 10 in the USA Hockey Magazine Poll and received 100 votes.
Hockey East Award Winners
Kirchmair was named Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Month as announced on Nov. 2. Kirchmair was recognized for leading the Friars in goals with seven and leading all of Hockey East in goals among freshman.
Kirchmair was named Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week as announced on Oct. 24. Kirchmair was recognized for earning two goals over the weekend. She has recorded seven goals and two assists across eight season games. She leads the Friars in goals and is second in points with nine.
Abstreiter was named Hockey East Goaltender of the Week as announced on Oct. 17. Abstreiter was recognized for having another shutout weekend against Holy Cross. She posted a combined 25 saves on the weekend and is the first goalie in program history to tally four-consecutive shutouts.
Abstreiter was named Hockey East Goaltender of the Week as announced on Oct. 10. Abstreiter was recognized for her efforts between the pipes after a shutout weekend over Union College and RPI, posting a combined 35 saves.
Reichen Kirchmair (Oakville, Ontario) was named Hockey East Pro-Ambitions Rookie of the Week as announced on Sept. 26. Kirchmair was recognized for scoring the game-winner with her first career goal against St. Lawrence.
Hockey East Preseason Poll
The Friars were picked to finish fourth in the Hockey East Preseason Poll, which was released on Tuesday, Sept. 13. Providence received 61 points and was picked to finish behind Northeastern (90), Vermont (79) and Boston College (76). The Huskies, who won the 2022 Hockey East Tournament, received nine first place votes.
Fresh Friar Faces
Providence welcomes seven new players (three transfers and four freshmen) to the roster for the 2022-23 season.
Noemi Neubauerova (Prague, Czech Republic) is a graduate student from Colgate University.
Ida Press (Uppsala, Sweden) is a graduate student from University of Maine.

Scouting the Huskies
The No. 14 UConn Huskies currently hold an 8-4-2 overall record with a 4-4-2 conference record. The Huskies are coming off a weekend sweep over Boston College with a 1-0 win on Friday, Nov. 4 and a 3-1 win on Saturday, Nov. 5. As a team, UConn averages 27.9 shots per game and holds a .235 conversion rate on power plays with a 54.3 faceoff success percentage.
Who to Watch
Senior Coryn Tormala leads the Huskies in goals with five and in total points with 11. Junior Jada Habisch and senior Claire Peterson are second in points with eight. Habisch has recorded four goals and four assists. Peterson has tallied three goals and five assists.
Sophomore goaltender Tia Chan has played 13 games this season. Chan has a total of 327 saves this season for a .942 save percentage and a 1.64 GAA. Sophomore goaltender Megan Warrener has played in two games this season for the Huskies. Warrener has recorded 44 saves for a .936 save percentage and a 1.57 GAA this season.

Providence currently leads the all-time series record against UConn 49-22-10. The last time the Friars faced off against the Huskies was in February 2022 when the two teams split the weekend. On Friday, Nov. 11 the Friars defeated the Huskies, 2-1. On Saturday, Nov. 12 the Friars fell to UConn, 2-0.
