LAST TIME OUT
- The No. 19 Providence College men's hockey team raced out to a 3-0 lead and held on for crucial 3-2 victory over No. 16 UMass Lowell on Saturday night (Feb. 19) at Schneider Arena.

Matt Koopman got the scoring started for the Friars, 1-0, with a goal 3:14 into play.
Michael Callahan and
Uula Ruikka earned the assists on Koopman's fourth of the season on a re-direct from the point.

Guillaume Richard added another for Providence, 2-0, on the power play with help from
Max Crozier and
Kohen Olischefski. Richard wired a shot over the glove of Savory after a nice curl-and-drag maneuver at the top of the left faceoff circle.
- In the second period,
Nick Poisson added to the Friars lead, 3-0, with a breakaway goal on a forced turnover off of the faceoff at 9:10.
- UMass Lowell got on the board with a power-play goal from Reid Stefanson, 3-1, after Poisson was sent to the box for holding with just 30 seconds remaining in period two.
- The River Hawks made it a one-goal game, 3-2, with a goal from Brehdan Engum at the 12:23 mark of the third period.Â
- Providence was forced to defend a full 2:00 of 6-on-4 to close out the game after
Michael Citara was called off for holding at 2:02 and Lowell pulled their goalie for the extra-man. The Friars were able to hold off the River Hawks in the final stretch to secure a 3-2 win with crucial blocked shots from
Chase Yoder and
Kohen Olischefski.
- The Friars blocked a season-high 25 shots, led by Richard's four blocks.
- Providence improved to 15-0-0 when scoring at least three goals this season.

A Look at Maine...
The Black Bears enter the weekend coming off splits in series against UMass and New Hampshire the last two weeks. Lynden Breen (7-11-18) and Donavan Villeneuve-Houle (10-6-16) pace the Black Bears. Goaltender Victor Ostman has logged the majority of the minutes in net for Maine this season, posting a 3.18 GAA and .903 save percentage in 19 games. The weekend will also mark another matchup with the Poisson brothers, as Friar (Nick) and Black Bear (Ben) square off. Ben ranks fifth on the Black Bears in scoring with seven goals and five assists.

The Friars and Black Bears meet for the first time this season with a two-game series at Schneider Arena beginning on Friday night. The Friars had dominated the series in recent years through 2019, winning 15-consecutive matchups and holding a 19-game unbeaten streak, but the teams have split the last six meetings overall.

Taige Harding Added to the Roster
The Providence College men's hockey program has addedÂ
Taige Harding (St. Albert, Alta.) to the roster for the second half of the 2021-22 season. The 6-foot-7-inch, 230-pound defenseman will wear No. 27 with the Friars. A third-round selection (91
st overall) of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2021 NHL Draft, Harding joins the Friars after spending two and a half seasons with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL). As a captain for the Oil Barons in 2021-22, Harding ranked second on the team in scoring with 14 goals and 23 assists for 37 points in 37 games. He also was named AJHL Defensive Player of the Week three times this season. In 99 career games with Fort McMurray, he amassed 20 goals, 36 assists and 154 penalty minutes.

Seven players recorded at least two points in Providence's season-opener against Army on Oct. 2 -

Fourteen Former Friars Participate in NHL Training Camps, Seven Earn Roster Spots
Providence boasts 14 former players that have participated in NHL training camps thus far in September. Noel Acciari (FLA), Kasper Bjorkqvist (PIT), Jacob Bryson (BUF), Vincent Desharnais (EDM), Jack Dugan (VGK), Brandon Duhaime (MIN), Jon Gillies (NYI), Mark Jankowski (NJ), Brian Pinho (WSH),
Greg Printz (ANA), Kevin Rooney (NYR), Brandon Tanev (SEA),
Tyce Thompson (NJ) and Jake Walman (STL). Acciari, Bryson, Duhaime, Rooney, Tanev, Thompson and Walman all made opening night rosters, while Duhaime made his NHL debut on Oct. 15 in Anaheim. On Jan. 2, Bjorkqvist made his NHL debut and scored his first NHL goal against the San Jose Sharks.

Stauber Named Mike Richter Award Semifinalist
Providence College junior goaltender
Jaxson Stauber (Plymouth, Minn.) was announced as a Mike Richter Award semifinalist, given annually to the top goaltender in Division I men's hockey. Stauber, who was also a Walter Brown Award semifinalist for the second-consecutive season, has posted a 18-13-2 record with a 2.11 GAA and .924 save percentage over 33 games this year. Stauber ranks in the top-15 among NCAA goaltenders in wins, goals-against average, save percentage, minutes played (1963:50), total saves (840) and shutouts (4).

Berard, Poisson Among Hockey East Leaders
Sophomores
Brett Berard and
Nick Poisson find themselves at the top of some of Hockey East's major scoring categories. Berard ranks fourth in the league in scoring with 33 points on 14 goals and 19 assists. He also is tied for first in game-winning goals (4) and power-play goals (7). Poisson ranks second in scoring with 34 points and first with 24 assists.
