PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The U.S. Track & Field And Cross Country Coaches Association released its academic awards on Thursday, Jan. 30. The Providence College men's and women's cross country programs each earned 2024 USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Academic Team Awards. The men's team earned a GPA of 3.60 and the women's squad produced a GPA of 3.35. In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period. Three Friars were also recognized individually as USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honorees. In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 (or 10 percent) at the NCAA Regional Championships or as an All-American at the NCAA Championships.
Individually, graduate student
Alex Millard (Kent, England) earned USTFCCCA All-Academic Team accolades as a member of the Providence College women's cross country team. Millard helped the team to a first-place finish as she placed fourth (19:34.37) at the NCAA Northeast Regional Cross Country Championship on Nov. 15. She also helped the team to a third-place finish at the 2024 NCAA Women's Cross Country Championships on Nov. 23. For the Friars, it marked their seventh time finishing in the top three all-time at the NCAAs. It also was the team's highest finish since placing first in 2013. The Friar women were making their 32nd appearance and fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Cross Country Championship.
Millard completed the race in 20th place (19:51.5) and earned All-America honors.
On the men's side, senior
Michael Morgan (Sligo, Ireland) and graduate student Patrick Thygesen (Brisbane, Australia) claimed USTFCCCA All-Academic Team accolades as a members of the Providence College men's cross country team. At the 2024 NCAA Northeast Regional Cros Country Championship, Morgan helped the Friars to a sixth-place finish as he paced the Friars, finishing 16th (30:18.71) of 256 runners. Thygesen was 21st in a time of 30:27.60.
