PROVIDENCE, R.I.– It was announced on Tuesday, Sept. 8, that Providence College juniors Gabby Schmidt (Brisbane, Australia) and
Cormac Dixon (Dublin, Ireland) were named BIG EAST Cross Country Female and Male Athletes of the Week, respectively. Schmidt earned the honor after capturing the individual title for the second consecutive year and leading the Friars to the team championship at the Friar Invitational at the Mark Coogan Course at Highland Park in Attleboro, Mass., on Friday, Sept. 4. Dixon placed third in the men's 6K race and led the Friars to a second-place overall finish.
Schmidt won the 4K race in a course-record time of 13:53.1, breaking the record previously held by former Friar Kimberley May. She also improved upon her mark of 14:07.82 from the 2025 Friar Invitational. The junior helped the Friar women to a first-place finish with 22 points.
Dixon placed third among 97 runners in 18:10.9 on Friday to lead the team to a second-place finish with 53 points. He improved upon his 2025 Friar Invitational time of 18:42.58.
The Friars will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Princeton Meadows Challenge in Princeton, N.J.
