Friars Cross Country Teams To Host Friar Invitational

The Friar Invitational will take place at Highland Park in Attleboro, Mass. on Friday
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams are set to compete in the Friar Invitational on Friday, Sept. 4 at the Mark Coogan Course at Highland Park in Attleboro, Mass. The meet will begin with the women's race at 4:30 p.m., followed by the men's race at 5:15 p.m. The Friars will race against Boston University, Brown University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, Northeastern University, University of Pennsylvania, Princeton University and Yale University.

The Friar women will be led by junior Anna Gardiner (Downpatrick, Ireland). Gardiner placed sixth (20:03.14) at the 2025 BIG EAST Cross Country Championship and sixth (20:04.2) at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship last fall.
Junior Gabrielle Schmidt (Brisbane, Australia) also had a successful 2025 cross country season, winning the Friar Invitational in 14:07.82. Schmidt finished 11th at the 2025 BIG EAST Cross Country Championship (20:22.65) and ninth at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship (20:15.6).
Also competing will be sophomore Kate Currie (Christchurch, New Zealand), who finished third at last year's Friar Invitational (14:34.43). Currie placed 12th at the 2025 BIG EAST Championship (20:23.91) and 25th at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship (20:34.3).
The men's cross country team will be led by juniors Cormac Dixon (Dublin, Ireland), Ryan LoCicero (Bloomfield, N.J.) and senior Daniel Prescott (Christchurch, New Zealand). Dixon placed eighth at last year's Friar Invitational (18:42.58) and 21st (24:05.81) at the 2025 BIG EAST Cross Country Championship.
LoCicero placed 12th (18:47.97) at last year's Friar Invitational, 23rd at the BIG EAST Championship (24:16.81) and earned All-Region honors with a 23rd-place finish at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship (30:06.5). Prescott finished 13th (18:49.94) at the 2025 Friar Invitational and 18th (24:02.30) at the BIG EAST Championship to earn All-BIG EAST honors.
