STORRS, Conn. – The Providence College men's and women's track and field teams traveled to Storrs Conn., for Day 3 of the BIG EAST Outdoor Track Championship on May 17. The competition took place at the Sherman Sports Complex at the University of Connecticut. The Friar women's team set a BIG EAST Championship record and two school records and the men's squad established two school records. Overall, the women scored 64 points and finished sixth, while the men registered 46 points and placed seventh.
In the 1,500 meters, graduate student
Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England) captured the title in a facility record time of 4:12.03. Junior
Cara Laverty (Derry, Ireland) placed third (4:18.70) and freshman
Emily Bush (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) was seventh (4:22.56).
The women's 4 x 800 meter squad of Flockhart, Laverty, senior
Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand), and sophomore
Maeve O'Neill (Cork, Ireland) also established a BIG EAST record when they won the relay in a time of 8:31.87. It also was a school and facility record.
O'Neill also ran the 800 meters and finished fourth (2:04.76).
The women's 4 x 400 meter relay team of junior
Jill Fenerty (Franklin, Mass.), freshman
Chloe Higgins (Morristown, N.J.), freshman Kiera Kelly (Scotch Plains, N.J.) and junior Elana Cabral (Somerset, Mass.) finished fifth in a school record time of 3:47.96.
Higgins also ran in the 400 meters and finished fifth (55.66).
The women's 4 x 100 team of Kelly, junior
Charlotte Cousins (Madbury, N.H.), sophomore
Cate Parks (Marion, Mass.) and junior
Ava Russell (West Babylon, N.Y.) finished seventh (48.53).
For the men's team, senior
Brett Lehman (Lower Gwynedd, Pa.) ran the 400 meter and placed second in a program record time of 46.46. He broke his own record time that he established in the trials on Friday.
In the men's 400 meter hurdles, junior
Will Rainey (San Jose, Calif.) ran a time of 57.90 and placed seventh
In the 1,500 meters, junior
Zane Powell (Auckland, New Zealand) ran 3:49.16 to place fifth and sophomore
Will Johnston (Auckland, New Zealand) placed seventh in a time of 3:49.54.
The men's 4 x 400 meter relay team of Lehman, freshman
Tucker Anglemeyer (Winnetka, Ill.), freshman
Thomas Hunt (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) and junior
Kyle Bloomer (Darien, Conn.) placed fourth in a school record time of 3:13.79.
The 4 x 800 team of Johnston, freshman
Liam O'Neill (Natick, Mass.), freshman Tom Breen (Providence, R.I.) and graduate student Patrick Thygesen (Brisbane, Australia) placed fifth (7:30.24).
The 4 x 100 squad of Anglemeyer, Bloomer, junior
Nico Fanuele (Wilmington, Mass.) and junior Nikolas Ventura (Jamison, Pa.) finished seventh (43.68).
