Men’s And Women’s Track To Run At NCAA First Round

Seven athletes will run on May 29-31 in Jacksonville, Fla.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field East Preliminary competitions are scheduled for May 28-31 at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla. The Providence College men's and women's track teams will have seven athletes (one man, six women) who qualified for the First Round competing in Jacksonville, Fla.
The runners competing at the NCAA First Round will attempt to qualify for the NCAA Finals which will be held June 11-14 in Eugene, Ore.

On the women's side, graduate student Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England) and senior Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) will lead the Friars in the 1,500 meters.
Flockhart, an eight-time All-American, won the 1,500 meters at the 2025 BIG EAST Outdoor Championship last weekend in a time of 4:12.03. The graduate student holds a personal best time of 4:04.98 (Dublin, Ireland) in the 1,500 meters. Her time of 4:05.99 in the semifinals of the 1,500 meters at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track Championship ranks as the eighth all-time best collegiate time. Flockhart went on to finish sixth in the event in the finals. May, a seven time All-American, won the 5,000 meters at the 2025 BIG EAST Outdoor Championship for the second year in a row. May ran a personal best 4:06.58 in the 1,500 meters at the Raleigh Relays in March, a time that ranks 11th all-time collegiately. The senior went on to finish second in the 1,500-meter finals at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track Championship last year.
Junior Cara Laverty (Derry, Ireland) and freshman Annie Mann (Hampshire, England) also will compete in the 1,500 meters. Laverty finished third at the 2025 BIG EAST Outdoor Championship in the 1,500 in a time of 4:18.70. The junior holds a personal best time of 4:16.72. Annie Mann finished ninth at the 2025 BIG EAST Outdoor Championship (4:22.81). The freshman ran a personal best time of 4:17.81 at Penn Relays this season.
Competing in the 5,000 meters will be graduate student Alex Millard (Kent, England). Millard, a two time All-American, finished runner up at the 2025 BIG EAST Outdoor Championship in the 10,000 meters in a time of 32.53.97. The graduate student recently won the 5,000 meters at the Raleigh Relays in a time of 15:27.02.
Sophomore Maeve O'Neill (Cork Ireland) will run in the 800 meters for the Friars. O'Neill finished fourth at the 2025 BIG EAST Outdoor Championship in the 800 meters. The sophomore holds a personal best time of 2:03.61 at Cork City Sports in July of 2024. O'Neill qualified for the quarterfinals of the 800 meters last year at the NCAA Preliminary rounds.
On the men's side, graduate student Pat Thygesen (Brisbane, Australia) will be competing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. At the 2025 BIG EAST Outdoor Championship, Thygesen won the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the second year in a row in a time of 8:46.72. The graduate student holds a personal best of 8:33.78.
