BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Providence College women's hockey team defeated the University of Vermont, 3-2, on Friday, Jan. 30, at Gutterson Fieldhouse in Burlington, Vt., to complete the weekend sweep. The Friars moved to 9-17-2 overall and 6-10-2 in Hockey East play, while the Catamounts dropped to 12-14-4 overall and 6-9-3 in conference action. Sophomore
Emma Hofbauer (Vomperbach, Austria) scored the game-winning goal with three minutes remaining in regulation.

1st Period
-The Catamounts struck first at 4:28 of the period on a goal from Stella Retrum. Lauren O'Hara and Kaylee Lewis recorded the assists.
-Providence took two penalties in the period but successfully killed off both.
-Vermont led in shots on goal, 10-2, after the period.
2nd Period
-After the Friars were awarded their first power play of the game, Providence converted at 10:07 of the period on a goal from junior
Audrey Knapp (Stevens Point, Wis.) to tie the game at one. Senior
Reichen Kirchmair (Oakville, Ontario) and senior
Cristina Cavaliere (Mississauga, Ontario) recorded the assists. With the assist, Kirchmair became the first Friar to reach 20 points this season.
-The goal marked Providence's first power-play goal since Dec. 6 against Merrimack College.
-Providence took the lead less than two minutes later on a Kirchmair deflection in front of the net. Sophomore
Cali Cerruti (Norwell, Mass.) and senior
Sarah Davies (Mississauga, Ontario) earned the assists. It marked Cerruti's first assist of the season and the second of her career.
-With the goal, Kirchmair reached 10 goals on the season, becoming the first Friar to do so this year. Kirchmair has reached double-digit goals in all four seasons of her career.
-The Friars were unsuccessful on one other power play in the period and killed off two more.
3rd Period
-Vermont tied the game at two on the power play at 13:50 of the period on a goal from Josie Hemp. Lewis and Ashley Kokavec recorded the assists.
-With 3:29 remaining in regulation, sophomore
Emma Hofbauer (Vomperbach, Austria) scored the game-winning goal. Cerruti and Cavaliere each picked up their second assists of the game. Cavaliere now has 15 assists this season to lead the Friars.
-The two assists tied a single-game career high for Cavaliere and marked a single-game high for Cerruti.
Notes
-Graduate student goaltender
Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.) recorded 40 saves for Providence. It marked her second game this season with 40-plus saves and her 100th career game for the Friars.
-The Friars improved to 43-23-7 all-time against the Catamounts and are unbeaten in their last nine games against Vermont. Head Coach
Matt Kelly moved to 11-8-3 against the Catamounts.
-Providence now has five road wins this season.
-The Friars are 5-0-1 when leading after two periods and 8-0-0 when scoring three or more goals this season.
