PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's basketball team held off DePaul in the second half on Wednesday night at Alumni Hall to earn a 66-60 victory. It marked the Friars' fourth-straight win in BIG EAST Conference play, marking the first four-game win streak in conference action for Providence since 1996. The Friars leveled their record at 14-14 and improved to 7-10 in the league. DePaul dropped to 6-22 overall (3-14 BIG EAST).
1ST QUARTER:
• DePaul held a 10-8 lead at the media timeout, with all 10 of the Blue Demons' points coming in transition.
• The Friars used a 6-1 advantage to claim a 14-11 lead with 1:17 to play in the quarter.
• The Blue Demons scored four unanswered points in the final 56-seconds to grab a 15-14 advantage at the intermission.
2ND QUARTER:
• There were four lead changes in the first five minutes of the second quarter.
• Orlagh Gormley scored six of the Friars' 10 points heading into the media timeout to give Providence a 24-21 lead (5:02).
• DePaul tied the game, 24-24, but Princess Moody and Gormley scored back-to-back buckets off a pair of turnovers by the Blue Demons (28-24).
• The Friars finished the quarter with a 6-0 scoring edge and took a 30-24 lead into halftime.
• Gormley led all scorers with 12 first-half points on 5-5 shooting from the field and a 2-2 showing at the charity stripe.
3RD QUARTER:
• Providence used a 6-0 spurt early in the third to take a 13-point lead (38-25) with 7:36 on the clock.
• DePaul cut the deficit to nine (40-31) after hitting a pair of threes, but Providence pushed out to a 16-point lead with a 10-3 scoring run at the 4:16 mark.
• DePaul finished the final 4:05 of the third quarter on a 10-0 run to get within 50-44 at the intermission.
• Both teams scored 20 points in the quarter.
• Sabou Gueye scored 10 of the Friars' 20 points in the frame.
4TH QUARTER:
• DePaul closed within 52-49 as the Friars were mired in a four-minute scoring drought.
• Teneisia Brown scored on a put-back to halt the drought, but DePaul answered on its next possession to keep it a three-point game (54-51) with 4:37 to play.
• Kate Novik got the Blue Demons within one before Sophi Hall hit the Friars' first three point field goal of the game at the 2:59 mark (57-53).
• Novik made one of two free throws at the 1:50 mark and then hit a three with 1:19 left to tie the game, 59-59.
• Nalani Kaysia got loose on the left block and converted a lay-up to give the Friars a 61-59 lead with 1:07 left.
• The Friars got a defensive stop and then Gormley scored on a floater in the paint to make it a two-possession game with 27-seconds to play (63-59).
• Gueye hit 1-2 free throws with 16-seconds left to extend Providence's lead to five (64-59).
• Gormley collected her fifth steal of the night and was sent to the free-throw line with six-seconds remaining, where she went 2-2 to ice the game.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Providence has won four-straight BIG EAST games for the first time since the 1995-96 season.
• The Friars improved to 9-1 on the year when scoring 65+ points.
• Providence's seven BIG EAST wins are the most since 2018-19, when the squad finished 8-10.
• Gormley paced the Friars with 18 points and added three rebounds, two assists and five steals.
• Gormley recorded a total of 14 steals during the season series against DePaul, having collected a career-high nine thefts in the first meeting. She has improved her season total in steals to 62 with three regular-season games still remaining on the schedule. Gormley's 62 steals are the most in a single season since Symone Roberts collected 98 in 2012-13.
• Brown recorded her third double-double of the season and 34th of her career on 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. She also added three assists and one blocked shot.
• Gueye added 15 points on 7-14 shooting and eight rebounds after sitting out all of the second quarter with foul trouble.
• DePaul edged the Friars on the glass, 45-44.

• The Friars will return to action on Sunday, Feb. 22 against No. 1/1 UConn at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Conn. Tipoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and the game will be televised on FS1.
