PROVIDENCE SET TO FACE TOP-RANKED UCONN... Providence College will travel to Storrs, Conn. to face top-ranked UConn on Sunday, Feb. 22. The game will be televised on FS1 and is scheduled to tipoff at Noon.
FRIARS AND HUSKIES ALL-TIME... Providence and UConn have met 72 times during the history of the two programs. The Huskies lead the all-time series, 51-21, including victories in each of the last 39 games.Â
LAST TIME PROVIDENCE DEFEATED CONNECTICUT... The Friars last defeated UConn on March 7, 1993. On that day, Providence claimed an 87-73 victory over the Huskies to advance to the BIG EAST Championship Game.
FRIARS AND HUSKIES AT GAMPEL PAVILION... Sunday's game between Providence and UConn will mark the first at Gampel Pavilion since Dec. 2, 2022. The Huskies lead the series vs. Providence at Gampel, 20-9. The Friars last victory in Storrs, Conn. dates back to March 5, 1990 (82-68). Since then, UConn has earned 17-straight wins vs. Providence at Gampel Pavilion.
LAST TIME PROVIDENCE DEFEATED A RANKED OPPONENT... Providence College last defeated a nationally ranked opponent on Jan. 4, 2023. On that day, the Friars claimed a 79-75 victory over No. 25/24 Creighton at D.J. Sokol Arena in Omaha, Neb.
TOP-10 WINS... The Friars have defeated a team ranked inside the top-10 of the national polls on two occasions. Providence defeated No. 5/9 NC State, 112-111, in overtime on Dec. 3, 1989 in Providence, R.I. On Jan. 12, 1980, the Friars defeated No. 9 Cheyney State, 50-46, in Providence, R.I.
WINS OVER RANKED OPPONENTS... The Friars have recorded 16 victories over nationally-ranked opponents all-time. Four of those 16 victories were secured on the road or at a neutral site, while 12 were claimed at home in Providence, R.I. This season, Providence is 0-2 vs. ranked opponents. On Dec. 28, the Friars fell to No. 3/3 South Carolina, 96-55. Three days later, Providence was defeated by No. 1/1 UConn, 90-53, on Dec. 31.
HOME-SWEET-HOME... The Friars have recorded 11 of their 14 victories this season at home in Alumni Hall, including five of their seven BIG EAST wins. When playing away from home, the Friars have posted a 3-8 record [2-7 in true road games; 1-1 at a neutral site]. Providence true road wins have come against DePaul (Jan. 4) and Georgetown (Feb. 14).Â
FOUR-STRAIGHT WINS IN BIG EAST PLAY... The Friars enter the weekend on a four-game win streak in BIG EAST Conference play. The last time Providence won four-consecutive BIG EAST regular-season games dates back to the 1995-96 campaign. During the current streak, Providence has defeated Xavier (66-50), Butler (73-64), Georgetown (59-54) and DePaul (66-60).
65+... Providence is 9-1 on the year when scoring 65+ points, including a 4-0 mark when scoring 70+. Providence suffered its only loss of the season when scoring 65-or-more points on Jan. 27 at Villanova (83-68).Â
SABOU GUEYE NAMED TO BIG EAST WEEKLY HONOR ROLL FOR A SEVENTH TIME... Sabou Gueye was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday, Feb. 16. It marked her seventh appearance of the season on the league's weekly awards list. Last week, Gueye paced the Friars with 18.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in a 2-0 week. She also added 2.0 assists and 1.0 blocked shot per game while shooting 50-percent from the field (13-26) and 91-percent from the foul line (10-11). She tallied 19 points, eight boards, two assists and two blocks against Butler on Feb. 11. She closed the week with 17 points, seven rebounds and two assists at Georgetown. She scored 11 of her 17 points in a pivotal second half to rally the Friars from a seven-point halftime deficit.
SABOU GUEYE PROVING TO BE ONE OF THE TOP PLAYERS IN BIG EAST... Grad transfer Sabou Gueye is a seven-time BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll selection this season. Through 28 games overall, she ranks fifth in the BIG EAST in scoring (15.3 ppg), 10th in rebounding (6.0 rpg), third in field-goal percentage (.500), 10th in steals (1.8 spg) and 12th in blocked shots (0.86 bpg). In BIG EAST Conference regular-season action, she ranks fourth in scoring (16.5 ppg), sixth in rebounding (6.6 rpg), third in field-goal percentage (.500), 10th in steals (1.8 spg), tied for 13th in blocked shots (0.82 bpg), fourth in offensive rebounding (2.29 orpg), eighth in defensive boards (4.35 drpg) and 12th in minutes played (31.44 mpg).
FLOOR GENERAL... Sophomore Orlagh Gormley has returned to the court as the Friars' floor general after sitting out the final 22 games of her freshman campaign with an injury. She's impacting both ends of the floor, leading the team in assists (3.9 apg) and steals (2.3 spg), while contributing 8.4 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. Gormley has recorded 3+ assists in 22 of the 27 games she has played, including 10 games with five-or-more assists. She has dished 5+ assists in six of the 16 league games she has played in and ranks seventh among BIG EAST players in assists per game during conference play (3.93 apg) and fourth in steals (2.63 spg).
100+ ASSISTS IN A SINGLE SEASON... Orlagh Gormley has dished 105 assists this season (3.9 apg). She is just the sixth Friar in the last 25 years to record 100 assists in a single season and the combined to do it eight times. In the last 10 years, only Janai Crooms has achieved the feat.

ON THE DEFENSIVE... Orlagh Gormley has collected 62 steals this season (with three regular-season games remaining), which marks the most by a Friar in a single-season since 2012-13. That year, Symone Roberts recorded 98 thefts. Additionally, Gormley's 62 steals are tied for the third most by a sophomore in program history. She has picked up 3+ assists in 10 games this season, including a career-high nine vs. DePaul.

SABOU GUEYE NOTCHES SEVENTH 20-POINT GAME... Sabou Gueye scored a career-high 29 points against Xavier on Feb. 8. It marked her seventh 20-point game of the season, which ranks first on the team and fifth in the BIG EAST. Gueye recorded just two 20-point games during her previous three seasons of NCAA Division I college basketball. Five of Gueye's 20-point performances this season have come during BIG EAST regular-season play. Three other players on the Friars' roster have hit 20 points this year. Payton Dunbar scored 22 points against Boston College (Nov. 15), Orlagh Gormley recorded 21 points against Creighton (Jan. 17) and Teneisia Brown tallied 24 points against Marquette (Feb. 4).

TENEISIA BROWN INCHING CLOSER TO 1,500 CAREER POINTS... Graduate transfer Teneisia Brown is inching closer to the 1,500-career points milestone. Brown arrived at Providence for her final season after stops at Merrimack (2020-22) and Fairleigh Dickinson (2023-25). She averaged double figures in the scoring column during each of her last three seasons of college basketball and currently ranks second on the team in scoring for the Friars through 28 games (10.3 ppg). Brown has a career scoring total of 1,474 points heading into Sunday's game at Connecticut and needs 26 points to reach the milestone. Â
TENEISIA BROWN RANKS 18TH AMONG ACTIVE NCAA DIVISION I PLAYERS CAREER REBOUND... Teneisia Brown eclipsed 900 career rebounds in the Friars' game against St. John's on Jan. 27. In 130 career games, Brown has hauled in 936 boards for an average of 7.2 rebounds per game. Brown ranks 18th among active NCAA Division I players in career rebounds. This season, Brown is averaging a team-best 6.2 boards per game, which ranks ninth in the BIG EAST.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE TROUBLE... Teneisia Brown recorded her team-best third double-double in the Friars' most recent game on Feb. 18 vs. DePaul. She finished the game with 14 points and 12 boards. Two of her three double-doubles have come during BIG EAST play. Brown also posted double-doubles against Central Connecticut (12 pts/14 rebs) and St. John's (11 pts/10 rebs). Sabou Gueye is second on the team in double-doubles. Gueye tallied 16 points and 12 rebounds vs. Boston College and 16 points and 12 rebounds vs. Xavier.Â
20/20... Sabou Gueye (22 points) and Orlagh Gormley (21 points) each eclipsed the 20-point mark in the Friars' game against Creighton on Jan. 17. The last time two Friars scored 20-points in the same BIG EAST game dates back to Jan. 24, 2024 against Seton Hall. Grace Efosa scored 29 points and Marta Morales Romero added 26 in a 82-76 victory in overtime. Additionally, the last time two Friars scored 20-points in a BIG EAST game of regulation length was on Jan. 27, 2017 in a 66-64 win over Marquette. Jovana Nogic scored 27 points and Sarah Beal chipped in 25.
TENEISIA BROWN NETS FIRST 20+ POINT GAME AS A FRIAR... Teneisia Brown eclipsed the 20-point plateau for the first time as a Friar on Feb. 4 at Marquette. She scored 24 points on 11-21 shooting from the field. Brown is the first Friar to score 20+ points off the bench since Nariah Scott tallied 20 points vs. Georgetown on Feb. 21, 2023. Prior to arriving at Providence, Brown recorded 20+ points in 10 games.
DOUBLE DIGITS... Sabou Gueye leads the Friars in double-digit scoring games (21) and 20-point games (seven). Additionally, she has scored in double figures in each of the last 10 games. Nine other players on the roster have reached double figures, including Teneisia Brown (16), Orlagh Gormley (10), Payton Dunbar (eight), Ashley Dinges (four), Sophi Hall (four), Nalani Kaysia (one), Princess Moody (one), Riley Hamburger (one), Sami Mancini (one) and Audrey Shields (one).Â
FRIARS POST LARGEST COMEBACK VICTORY SINCE 2017... The Friars overcame a 19-point deficit to defeat DePaul, 69-59, on Jan. 4 in Chicago, Ill. It marks the largest comeback victory since Nov. 11, 2017, when Providence rallied from a 20-point deficit to defeat Northeastern, 98-95, in overtime.
LARGEST COMEBACK IN BIG EAST PLAY SINCE 2013... The Friars overcame a 19-point deficit to defeat DePaul, 69-59, on Jan. 4. It marks the largest comeback win in BIG EAST play since Jan. 23, 2013. On that day, the Friars rallied from a 21-point deficit to defeat Villanova, 65-60, in overtime.
MOST STEALS BY A FRIAR IN A SINGLE GAME SINCE 2008-09 SEASON... Sophomore Orlagh Gormley recorded a career-high nine steals in the Friars' game against DePaul (Jan. 4). Her nine steals are the most by a Friar since Sarah Beal collected 10 against Bryant on Dec. 12, 2009.Â
SOPHI HALL PERFECT EN ROUTE TO A CAREER-BEST 18 POINTS... Junior Sophi Hall played 13 minutes off the bench in the Friars' match-up against Yale (Nov. 21) and recorded a career-high 18 points. Sixteen of her 18 points came in the second half. She was perfect from the field (5-5), including a 3-3 showing from beyond the arc. She also was 5-5 from the foul line.

BIG EAST PRESEASON POLL... The Friars were picked to finish 10th in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll, released at the league's annual media day on Oct. 21 at Madison Square Garden. Last season, Providence completed the year with a 13-19 overall record and claimed a seventh-place finish in the regular-season standings with a 6-12 conference record. Heading into Sunday's game vs. UConn, the Friars are alone in seventh place with a 7-10 overall record.
