PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's and women's track and field teams will open the 2026 outdoor season at the Raleigh Relays, held at the Paul Derr Track and Field Facility in Raleigh, N.C., from Thursday, March 26 through Saturday, March 28. The three-day event will be streamed live on ESPN+.

Headlining the Friar women will be senior
Jane Buckley (Cork, Ireland) and sophomore Gabby Schmidt (Brisbane, Australia). Both are set to compete in the women's 5,000 meters.
Buckley enters the outdoor season after finishing the indoor campaign with a first-place finish in the 3,000 meters at the New England Championships in 9:19.47. The senior owns a personal-best time of 15:41.68 in the 5,000 meters.
Schmidt also competed in the 3,000 meters at the New England Championships, finishing second behind Buckley in a time of 9:20.84. The sophomore's personal-best time in the 5,000 meters is 16:10.87.
Leading the way for the Friar men will be sophomore
Elliott Pugh (Tauranga, New Zealand), who is set to compete in the 1,500 meters. Sophomore
Thomas Breen (Providence, R.I.) will compete in the 800 meters.
Most recently, Pugh earned two All-BIG EAST honors after finishing second in the 3,000 meters at the 2026 BIG EAST Indoor Championship in a time of 8:00.44 and as a member of the distance medley relay team that placed second (9:47.09). He has run a personal-best time of 3:49.73 in the 1,500 meters. The sophomore became the 11th runner in indoor program history to reach a sub-four mile when he ran a 3:59.60 at the Boston University Valentine Invitational this February. Pugh will be competing in his first Raleigh Relays.
Breen will compete in the 800 meters at the Raleigh Relays. At the 2026 BIG EAST Indoor Championships, Breen placed fourth in the 800-meter final in a personal-best time of 1:48.92.
The freshman also established a program record in the 600 meters at the Harvard Beantown Challenge in 1:20.17. Breen competed in the 800 meters at the 2025 Raleigh Relays and finished in 1:52.48.
In the field events, junior
Jon Mignacca (Seekonk, Mass.) will compete in the high jump. Mignacca most recently won the BIG EAST Championship in the high jump at the 2026 BIG EAST Indoor Championships, winning a jump-off at 2.04 meters. The junior became the first male field athlete in program history to win a BIG EAST Championship.
