Providence College Volleyball Secures A Sweep Against The Crusaders To Secure The 21st Annual Friars Classic Trophy

Aubrey Easterwood was named Most Outstanding Player; Tori Otter and Ava Dyer earned All-Tournament Team honors.

PROVIDENCE R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team (7-1) defeated Holy Cross (5-6) in straight sets on Saturday, Sept. 12, to close out the 21st Annual Friar Classic. 
 
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Friars took set one, 25-19. 
  • Providence went on a 7-1 run to claim a 15-9 lead.
  • The Crusaders got within three (18-21) and forced a Friars timeout. 
  • Senior Miller McDonald (Dallas, Texas) notched three service aces. 
  • Senior Macy Taylor (Rowlett, Texas) led the team with eight digs. 
 
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence took set two, 25-20.
  • Both teams traded points early to reach an 8-8 tie. 
  • Providence trailed by four on two occasions before making a run to tie the set (16-16). 
  • The Friars used a 7-2 run to win the match 25-20. 
  • McDonald had seven assists.
 
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: Friars took set three 25-20 to secure a sweep. 
  • The score was tied 14-14 after the Friars went on an 8-1 run. 
  • Providence went on a 10-1 run and gained a 22-18 advantage.
  • McDonald had her second-consecutive seven assist set. 
  • Senior Shea Dupuis (Richardson, Texas) led the team with four kills. 
 
MATCH NOTES:
  • Freshman Ava Dyer (Fort Worth, Texas) led the team with 17 digs. 
  • The Friars had eight service aces in the match. 
  • Sophomore Tori Otter (Rogers, Ark.) led the team with 9 kills. 
  • McDonald led the team with 17 assists. 
  • Freshman Aubrey Easterwood (Dallas, Texas) was awarded Most Outstanding Player.
  • Dyer and Otter earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.  
 
WHAT'S NEXT: The Friars return action next weekend (Sep. 18-19) at the Harvard Tournament in Cambridge, Mass. Providence will face Harvard University (Sep. 18) at 6:00 p.m. and Sacred Heart University (Sep. 19) at 6:00 p.m.
