CAMBRIDGE MASS. - The Providence College volleyball team (8-2) was defeated by Harvard University (8-0) in straight sets on Friday, Sept. 18, to open the Harvard Tournament in Cambridge, Mass. 

FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Harvard took set one, 25-21. 
  • The Friars took the lead for the first time in the set at 12-11.
  • After a 7-2 run from the Crimson, Harvard led 18-14.
  • The Friars equalized the score 21-21. 
  • Providence notched 11 kills. 
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Crimson took set two, 25-21.
  • Senior Shea Dupuis tied the set 6-6 with a kill.
  • The Crimson maintained the lead throughout the rest of the set. 
  • Junior Sophia Adkins (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the Friars in kills with five.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: Harvard took set three, 29-27, and swept the Friars. 
  • Adkins notched her 12th kill of the match to give the Friars a two-point lead (13-11).
  • Providence took its largest lead of the match at 17-14.
  • The teams were tied 18-18, which marked the sixth tie of the set. 
  • The Friars battled for the lead but fell to the Crimson 29-27. 
MATCH NOTES:
  • Senior Miller McDonald (Dallas, Texas) totaled 20 assists.
  • McDonald eclipsed 2,000 career assists during the match and now owns 2,014 assists in her career. 
  • Adkins recorded a match and season-high 19 kills on 31 total attempts (.581). 
  • Adkins added 10 digs for a double-double.
  • The Friars notched a team total of 40 kills during the match. 
 
WHAT'S NEXT: The Friars return action on Sep. 19 for their final match non-conference match against Sacred Heart, as part of the Harvard Tournament, at 6:00 p.m.
