Field Hockey Upsets 20th-Ranked UNH, 2-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College Friars upset the 20th-ranked New Hampshire Wildcats, 2-1, in field hockey action at Durham, N.H., on Tuesday, October 17. With the win, the Friars ended UNH's 15-game home unbeaten streak.

The Friars took a 1-0 lead at 30:30 of the first half when senior Amy DePietro (Southbury, Conn.) tipped in a centering pass by UNH senior goalkeeper Amy Agulay (London, Ontario). The Wildcats evened the game at 1-1 as senior Jessica Russell (Harrisville, R.I.) scored off a penalty corner with 19:37 remaining in the first half. PC sophomore Jen Chin (Norwood, Mass.) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with a shot from the top of the circle at 10:53 of the first half.

PC senior goalkeeper Heather Tattersall (Bethlehem, Pa.) registered five stops in 35 minutes of action and freshman Meaghan Moran (Framingham, Mass.) made five saves in the final 35 minutes. Agulay recorded five stops for UNH.

With the win, Providence improved to 5-12 overall, while New Hampshire fell to 9-6 overall.

Providence College returns to action on Friday, October 20 at Syracuse, N.Y. against the Syracuse University at 7:00 p.m.
