Sept. 27, 2014 PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team fell to BIG EAST foe DePaul in straight sets, 3-0, on Saturday, Sept. 27 at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. The Friars fall to 4-13 overall on the season and 0-3 in BIG EAST play. The Blue Demons improve to 3-11 and 1-1 in the league.
Sophomores Kayla Fitzgerald (Redlands, Calif.) and Kayla Johnson (Silver Spring, Md.) and freshman Abbie Trzeciak (Cranberry Township, Pa.) combined to record 24 of the Friars' 34 kills in the match. Fitzgerald led the way with a team-best nine kills, including five in the second set.
The Blue Demons earned a 25-15 victory in the first set, but the Friars played DePaul much tougher in sets two and three, falling 25-20 in each.
Sophomore libero Michelle Cruz (Midland Park, N.J.) registered a match-high 15 digs, including eight in the third set alone. Junior Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) recorded a match-high 30 assists.
Saige Gallop led the Blue Demons with 12 kills, while Colleen Smith and Kelsey Horvath recorded 24 and 17 assists, respectively.
