The Friars will return to Alumni Hall on Tuesday, Sept. 9 to face off against University of New Haven.
PROVIDENCE, R.I.-Â The Providence College volleyball team (3-3) was defeated by Bryant University (2-4) in five sets (3-2) on Saturday, Sept. 6, in the final match of the Ocean State Cup. The Friars claimed the Ocean State Cup via a tiebreaker.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS:Â Bryant won the first set 25-20.
·         Providence came out strong with a 7-1 lead, forcing a Bryant timeout.
·         Bryant responded with an 11-3 run to take a 12-10 lead, forcing a Friar timeout
·         The Bulldogs extended their lead to 18-12, leading to a second Friar timeout.
·         Bryant took their second timeout after Providence narrowed the gap to 24-20.
·         The Bulldogs had a kill to win the set 25-20.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS:Â Bryant took the second set 26-24.
·         The two teams traded points early, tying the set at 4-4.
·         Bryant responded with a 6-1 run, prompting a Providence timeout at 10-5.
·         Providence narrowed the gap to 20-18, forcing a Bryant timeout.
·         Sophomore Audrey Kocon (Shoreview, Minn.) had an ace to give Providence a 22-20 advantage.
·         The Friars took their second timeout leading 24-23.
·         Bryant closed the set with a 3-1 run to win 26-24.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS:Â Providence won the third set 25-20.
·         The teams battled evenly to tie at 11-11.
·         A 3-0 Friar run forced a Bryant timeout at 14-11.
·         Providence extended the lead to 19-14 with a kill by freshman Kaia Easterbrook (Canton, Ga.) prompting another Bryant timeout.
·         The Bulldogs answered with a 4-2 run to close the gap to 21-19, leading to a Friar timeout.
·         Providence maintained their lead, winning the set 25-20.
FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS:Â Providence earned a 25-20 victory in the fourth set.
·         The two teams traded points early, tying the set at 7-7.
·         Providence went on a 7-3 run, forcing a Bryant timeout (14-10).
·         The Bulldogs responded with a 4-0 run, prompting a Friar timeout (14-14).
·         Bryant used their second timeout after sophomore Sophia Adkins (Cincinnati, Ohio) had a kill to give Providence an 18-15 lead.
·         The Friars maintained their lead, winning the set 25-20.
FIFTH SET HIGHLIGHTS:Â Bryant won the set 15-10 and the game 3-2.
·         The two teams rallied back-and-forth, with the set deadlocked at 7-7.
·         The Friars took a timeout after an ace by Bryant gave the Bulldogs the lead (9-8).
·         Bryant went on a 3-1 run, forcing a second Providence timeout (12-9).
·         The Bulldogs maintained their lead, winning the set 15-10, and the match 3-2.
MATCH NOTES:
·         Redshirt senior Hadley Pride (Nashville, Tenn.) led the defense with 24 digs.
·         Adkins and Kocon both recorded double-doubles. Adkins had 11 digs and a team-high 23 kills. Kocon had 19 assists and 16 digs.
·         Easterbrook led the team in blocks with six.
·         Adkins and Pride were named to the All-Tournament Team.
·         The Friars notched 58 kills, 11 blocks, seven aces, and 69 digs.
WHAT'S NEXT:Â The Friars will return home to Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 6:00 PM to face off against the University of New Haven.
