PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invitational, hosted by Wisconsin University, on Friday, Oct. 9. The meet will be held on the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course. The women's 6K championship race will begin at 11:30 a.m. ET while the men's 8K will start at 12:10 p.m. ET. The No. 24 ranked women will compete against 17 ranked teams, while the men will go up against 21 ranked teams.

The Friar women will be led by junior Gabby Schmidt (Brisbane, Australia). Schmidt most recently finished fourth of 183 runners at the 6K Princeton Meadows Challenge in 19:53.3, leading the Friars to a third place finish of 17 teams with 87 points. Providence finished in front of three nationally ranked teams including Penn State (No. 13), Princeton (No. 25) and Villanova (No. 29). For her efforts, Schmidt was named BIG EAST Cross Country Female Athlete of the Week for the second time this season.
The top five women at the Princeton Meadows Challenge finished in the top 30 for the Friars. Following Schmidt, juniors
Anna Gardiner (Downpatrick, Ireland) and Emilly Bush (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) finished in the top 20. Gardiner was 12th in 20:09.7, while Bush finished 18th in a time of 20:30.8. In her first race for Providence, graduate student
Megan Harris (Essex, England) finished 23rd in 20:38.7. Rounding out the scoring for the Friars was sophomore
Kate Currie (Christchurch, New Zealand), who completed the 6K course in 20:44.5.
Leading the pack for the men's side will be junior
Cormac Dixon (Dublin, Ireland). Most recently, Dixon finished 37th in the 8K race of the Princeton Meadows Challenge in a time of 23:53.2.
In addition to Dixon, juniors
Daniel Prescott (Christchurch, New Zealand) and
Ryan LoCicero (Bloomfield, N.J.) will compete in the 8K for Providence. Prescott placed 50th (24:04.7) in the race while LoCicero was 64th (24:12.6). Rounding out the scoring for the Friars at the Princeton Meadows Challenge was graduate student
Jack Small (Kent, England) placed 80th (24:27.5) and junior
Elliott Pugh (Tauranga, New Zealand) who was 83rd overall (24:31.5).
