No. 7 Men's Hockey Runs Winning Streak To Nine; Downs Vermont, 6-1

Aleksi Kivioja tallied his first-career multi-goal game in the win.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. –The No. 7 Providence College men's ice hockey team ran its win streak to nine with a 6-1 win over the University of Vermont Saturday night in Hockey East action at Schneider Arena. The nine-game winning streak is the second longest streak in program history (10 games, 2015-16).

NOTES

- Ten different student-athletes recorded at least one point for the Friars, including Aleksi Kivioja (2-1-3), Andrew Centrella (0-2-2), Donovan McCoy (1-1-2), Beau Jelsma (0-2-2), and Clint Levens (1-1-2).

- Freshman netminder Jack Parsons ran his win streak to nine with a 29-save performance. The Cortland, New York native has allowed just 14 goals during the win streak, which includes shutouts of both Maine (Jan. 10) and Boston University (Jan. 24).

- The Friars opened the scoring just 38 seconds into the contest when Kivioja potted his sixth of the campaign off a feed from Centrella. It doubled the lead at 15:13 of the stanza on Hudson Malinoski's eighth tally of the season.

- Minutes after the Catamounts had a goal waived off due to goaltender interference midway through the second, McCoy scored the Friars second shorthanded goal of the season at 17:40 to make it 3-0.

- Goals from John Mustard and Levens in the opening 6:25 of the third stretched the PC lead to 5-0 before Colin Kessler's shorthanded goal broke Parsons' shutout bid at 7:43.

- Kivioja's second of the night on a tap-in at the right post off a feed from Gamache capped the scoring at 18:55.

- Providence now rides a 17-game unbeaten streak against Vermont (12-0-5).

- The nine-game winning streak is currently the longest in the NCAA.

- Providence now holds an eight-point lead atop the Hockey East standings with the win.
