PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Senior field hockey standout Breanne Wojnarowicz (Holden, Mass.) was named to the 2000 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team, the league office announced earlier today.

Wojnarowicz, one of the Friars' top defensive players, started all 19 games and recorded three defensive saves and 10 points (four goals, two assists) in 1999. Last season, she was named to the 1999 All-BIG EAST First Team and the 1999 Northeast Region Second Team All-America. Wojnarowicz excelled off the field as well, as she was named a BIG EAST Academic All-Star. A graduate of Notre Dame Academy, she is the daughter of John and Kathleen Wojnarowicz.

Providence was selected to finish sixth in the BIG EAST in the 2000 Field Hockey Preseason Poll by a vote of the league's six head coaches. The Friars completed their 1999 season with an overall record of 7-12 and a 1-4 mark in the BIG EAST.

The Friars will open their 2000 season on Wednesday, August 30, when they travel to Orono, Maine, to take on the Black Bears of the University of Maine. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
