Friars improve to 7-2 overall on the season and 2-0 in the BIG EAST.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Providence College field hockey team defeated BIG EAST foe Georgetown, 1-0, on Sept. 25 in Washington, D.C. Senior Carly van Benten netted the game winner with 3:07 left in regulation off a feed from sophomore Ariana Ftorek. The Friars improved to 7-2 on the season and 2-0 in the BIG EAST. Georgetown dipped to 4-5 (0-2 BIG EAST).

1STÂ QUARTER:
• The Friars were awarded three-consecutive corners late in the first quarter and put two of their three shot attempts on cage but were unable to record a goal during the flurry.
• After the opening 15 minutes of play, the teams went to the intermission locked in a scoreless draw (0-0).
• Both teams recorded three shots and two shots on goal.

2NDÂ QUARTER:
• The Friars recorded three more corners in span of just over a minute midway through the second quarter.
• The third and final corner in the stretch resulted in Bo Martina hitting the post on a shot attempt at the 24:53 mark.
• Providence held a 6-1 edge in shots during the second quarter and a both teams recorded three penalty corners.
• The match remained scoreless at halftime (0-0).
• At the half, Providence held a 9-4 advantage in shots, including a 4-2 margin in shots on goal. The Friars also mounted a 6-3 advantage in attacking penalty corners.

• Providence outshot Georgetown 3-0 in the third frame and recorded a 2-0 advantage in penalty corners.

• Senior Carly van Benten scored what proved to be the game-winning goal at 56:53 off a feed from sophomore Ariana Ftorek.
• Georgetown had a chance to tie the game after being awarded a penalty corner opportunity at 58:48. However, the Hoyas were unable to get a shot off. Georgetown committed a foul and the Friars iced the game on the restart.
• Providence held a 5-0 edge in shots and 3-1 advantage in corners in the fourth.

• Van Benten scored her fifth goal of the season. Through nine games this season, she ranks second in goals (five) and points (10).
• Van Benten has reached double-digit points in back-to-back seasons and has matched her career high in goals for a single season.
• Ftorek recorded her second assist of the season and first point of her career in BIG EAST regular-season play.
• Sophomore goalkeeper Ava Porter notched her third shut-out victory of the season and improved to 6-2 overall (2-0 BIG EAST). She recorded two saves versus the Hoyas.

• Providence improved to 2-0 in the BIG EAST, with both league victories coming on the road.
