Field Hockey Falls to Hofstra, 2-1

Storrs, Conn.-- The Providence College Field Hockey team was defeated by Hofstra University, 2-1, in the second game of the IKON Husky Classic held at the University of Connecticut on Sunday, September 3.

The Pride and the Friars went back-to-back with chances on goal in the first half. Hofstra senior Tara Sterlacci scored the opening goal off a pass from Allison Barnett at the 16:58 mark.

PC then made a play in the second half to tie the game with senior Breanne Wojnarowicz (Holden, Mass.) netting an unassisted goal at the 13:40 mark.

Hofstra's Jessica Banks put in the game-winning shot with 11:38 remaining in the game to lead the Pride to their first win of the season.

Providence senior goalie Heather Tattersall (Bethlehem, N.H.) made 14 saves for the Friars. Christine Hickey recorded 23 saves between the pipes for Hofstra.

Tattersall was named to the All-Tournament Team after posting 26 saves and a .839 save percentage during the two-day event.

Despite the loss, PC outshot Hofstra, 32-15, and led in penalty corners, 7-6. Hofstra improved to 1-2 on the season, while the Friars fell to 0-3 overall.

Providence returns to action on Wednesday, September 6, when they travel to Kingston, R.I., to take on the University of Rhode Island. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
