PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team was defeated 3-1, by the University of Maine in non-conference action on Sunday at Hendricken Field, in Providence, R.I.
Maine got on the scoreboard first as Rebecca Ouellet scored with 13:12 remaining in the first half, to give the Black Bears a 1-0 lead. Providence answered to even the score, 1-1, as junior Lyndsey Brooks (New Fairfield, Conn.) connected on the lone Friar goal of the day with 1:16 left in the half.
In the second half, Maine scored two unanswered goals to win the game, 3-1. Sophomore Karyn Magno scored the go-ahead-goal at the 17:55 mark of the second half, and added her second goal of the day with 14:46 remaining in the game. Magno's second goal was assisted by Morgan Brady.
Meaghan Moran (Framingham, Mass.) finished the day with six saves in goal for Providence. Jaye Lance also took in six saves for the Black Bears. Providence outshot Maine, 24-13, and held the advantage on penalty corners, 13-6.
Maine improves its record to 10-7. Providence falls to 11-6 overall, and will travel to Harvard to take on the Crimson in the final regular-season game of the year. The game is scheduled for Wednesday, October 31 at 3:30 p.m.
