University of Massachusetts Minutewomen (0-11) - The Minutewomen come to Hendricken Field looking for their first victory of the season. UMass' statistical leaders are sophomore forward Caitlin Beresin (Acton, Mass.) and freshman forward Jamie Bawden (Penticton, British Columbia). Each have recorded two goals and four points this season. Junior Ashley Egland (Ilion, N.Y.) and sophomore Christine Tocco (Reading, Mass.) have been under fire in goal for the Minutewomen. The two goalies have made 73 and 24 saves, respectively. England has played the majority of the games (nine), with four starts. Patty Shea is in her sixth season as the Massachusetts head coach. The Minutewomen have an all time record of 18-3 versus the Friars.

Providence College Friars (5-8) - The Friars host Massachusetts on Wednesday, October 7 at Hendricken Field. PC is led by senior forward Jennifer Chin (Norwood, Mass.), who is the only Friar in double figures in points, with 10. She is in a three-way tie for the team lead in goals, with three, and leads the team with four assists. The other two Friars with three goals this season are senior defender Kara Lukens (Pennsburg, Pa.) and senior midfielder Lyndsey Brooks (New Fairfield, Conn.). Junior Meaghan Moran (Framingham, Mass.) has started all 13 games for the Friars this season. In the Friars' last game, a 2-1 defeat in penalty strokes, to Maine, Moran made 10 saves for the second straight game. The 10 saves are a season high for Moran. Friar Head Coach Diane Madl is in her first year with PC after serving as an assistant coach at Maine for the past nine seasons. She will attempt to become the first Providence field hockey coach to defeat Massachusetts in her first attempt. Last season, the Friars defeated the Minutewomen 1-0 (ot).
